Penguins at the Draft

With the 2012 entry draft being held in Pittsburgh, PA, could the penguins be so inspired as to make a bold move for the first overall pick?

Being that Edmonton would be looking for a tip pairing offensive D, a solid top 6 center to replace Gags or a goaltender, is it possible that the Pens would consider a package that would include as the basis of a deal any of the following:

Kris Letang for 1rst overall

Jordan Staal for 1rst overall

MAF for 1rst overall

Given the recent signing of Vokoun, is MAF moveable?

Staal's contract expires after next season I believe??

If the Pens would consider a deal surrounding these players, who/ what would Pitt or Edm need to add to get it done.

I am thinking Yakupov on the wing of Crosby would be rather enticing for Pens fans!

Please don't let this diminish into slinging crap at one another

I did mention an add if necessary any of the 3 deals and was hoping to see what the adds would be, realistically.

I don't really think that there's a sure fire super star forward in this draft, and you then end up with a relatively big cap-hit straight away for that player.

Letang isn't going anywhere, Staal I think all Pens fans would prefer to keep if it is possible, and as regards Fleury people are divided.

If teams would really deal the equivalent of a 1st overall for Fleury, I would definitely hit the button. But then I'd likely flip that 1st overall.

Letang OR MAF could feasibly get it done. I think the Oil would shy away from Staal and his expiring deal though.

Nah, I think Shero would rather keep his young proven players than draft 1st overall in a draft Pittsburgh is hosting.

Yakupov will be good no doubt about it, not saying I wouldn't want him, there's just no reason to trade fr the 1st overall.

Maybe they make some draft say deals to improve the team, just not for a 1st overall.

Pens do need wingers that's for sure. However moving Letang would simply be dumb on our part. Fleury could be moved, but he won't be moved this year. If he has another so so playoffs next year and Vokoun remains healthy, I could then see Shero moving him next off season. Staal could very likely be moved, but it depends of the return and I don't think the Oilers would be ready to make that move since they're afraid of Staal having 1 year left on his deal and probably not going to want to sign there

A lot of Pens fans actually think Shero won't deal our 1st rounder under ANY circumstances just because the draft is in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure which way the logic works in terms of this proposal.

unless it's to package the 1st to move up. I'd like to have 2 1st round picks

I agree on Letang, but if I'm Pens, I'm doing MAF/Staal for Yakupov. Absolutely.

If that means MAF OR Staal, I agree, though I am too emotionally attached to really love the deal. If that means MAF AND Staal, lol no.

So whose the goalie when Vokoun retires in 2 years? We have 0 quality goalie prospects coming through the system. Getting one through FA isn't reliable either.

We don't want to become the next Philly/Toronto/Chicago of scrambling for a goalie each year.

And we replace Fleury with who? Vokoun isn't young anymore to play 60+ games and look at this year what happened he got hurt before the playoffs. Trading Fleury right now would be a dumb mistake by the Pens

This..... MAF isn't going anywhere unless Shero is blown away or we have a suitable replacement. Vokoun is 36 way to old to be a suitable replacement in the medium to long term (maybe even short term)
However, I'd do the Staal one

I would NEVER trade Letang. He's what makes our team click. He might be the most important player on the team.

Vokoun 50, back-up (Clemmensen, Harding, etc.) the rest, maybe a couple of games for Thiessen as well.

Don't see it.

Wouldn't do it from a Pens POV. We don't need a scorer like Yakupov bad enough and Murray might become as good a D-Man as Letang but he might not. Too risky.

Quote:

Doubt Edmonton would do this. Also doubt the Pens would unless Staal makes it clear he wants a bigger role or too much money and he's willing to go to Edmonton. I think Staal brings more of what the Pens need (all around game) than another scorer like Yakupov.

Quote:

Guarantee Edmonton wouldn't do this. I don't see the benefit for the Pens either since they'd be back to only one goalie (Vokoun) and no one to turn to if he struggles. That's what got them in trouble last season. Fleury was good all year but started slumping around playoff time and they had no legit backup to go to.

Quote:

No for the reasons I just gave.

Quote:

It does. Whoever trades for him will want to work out a new deal before the trade goes through.

Quote:

Yakupov on the wing is enticing for a lot of teams fans but I don't see a trade that works between Edmonton and Pittsburgh.
