Patrick is staying in his current position. I don't expect Davidson would be a replacement for him anyways as that would be a step back from what he does in St. Louis.

Eric Smith's tweet is curious, if nothing else. Perhaps the league asked the CBJ to talk to him? Or they asked Davidson to reach out to Columbus if he was intent on fielding offers. Its been documented that the league helped Priest with the Advisor search that netted Patrick and if I remember right, Priest sought league advice for the GM search.

I would say that the truth of the statement wasn't why I made the comment.

This was in question? I'll have to go back and take a look at this thread again.

Not really. The tweet didn't even get me to raise an eyebrow. The two seconds I took to think about it was too long.

No thread titled "Fire Davidson" Guess that means we haven't hired him yet.

Someone wondered if it wouldn't be another person in Patrick's role since his contract technically expires at the end of the month....

I thought his contract was just renewed for another year?

He's also calculated and smart like Howson, but he's not a wus. I hate to ruin him already by comparing him to DM/SH, but that's the frame of reference I have. I think he'd be the best of both worlds. I also love the instant credibility he'd bring to the franchise.

He'd be a step in the right direction, but "biggest acquisition" is way over the top.

Not 100 percent sure if it was yet or not, Portzline was asked in a recent chat about it. Fred mentioned it in one of the threads a few weeks ago too.... (The chat was back on May 18th, so apologies if he has, in fact, been signed, sealed and delivered for at least one more season)

12:36:20 Portzline: "Patrick has gotten rave reviews from within the front office. The club sorely needed somebody like him in the hockey operations department, but they can't stop there. They still need a few more guys to align themselves with most clubs in the NHL. Patrick's not likely to go anywhere for at least another year or so. He's happy in his role."

It kinda sucks that a guy of his caliber wasn't available (or at least, considered) a while ago, but yes I do believe that actually having integrity at the top of the org would be the best thing we could do at the moment. JD could provide what players/personnel in the past, no matter how big of an acquisition they may have/had been, could not – and that is a backbone for this franchise. That's why he would be so crucial for us.

Can you really say otherwise?

That's my understanding. And I assume that since we've heard nothing as of yet that it's not going to happen. I hate to be pessimistic, but its hard not to be with CBJ upper management. : )

We have no idea. If the Blues want that contract gone, they will work around the window.

I don't know much about the guy, but I'm relucant to consider him an almighty savior.

Seems like the Blues have had the talent, but still struggled until a coaching change.

Hmm. Sounds like a familar scenario, huh?

Maybe we're not that far off...

I'm shooting for upgrade. He is, over Priest, by a mile.

Wild Westside (WildWildWestside)
Don't think for a minute that this is the decision of the Jackets to hire him. This is being forced on them by the NHL office as a last ditch effort to keep this franchise alive. There is no backup plan if the Jackets go under. There is no city to move them to. Moving Atlanta was an embarrassment. They won't approve another move. They forced the club to hire Patrick, who has no power and has been ignored.
Anyone else see this? Heard this? Sounded to me like Patrick pushed for Richards to stay, and I think Patrick was the one to say 'no' to all Nash trade offers last season... Is Wild Westside way out there on this? I think so.

The NHL has influence but I doubt they can force owners to hire or fire people..

From the comments section? Sounds like a disgruntled fan who is taking advantage of being able to make up/say anything he wants through an online comment post. Nothing to see here.

There is one part of it, that I think has truth to it. The rest, not so much. I would largely ignore that comment. It's hard to say there is that much desperation on the side of the NHL and expect Patrick to fix it an advisory role in any reasonable amount of time.
