Colorado Re-Signs David Jones [4 years/$16 million]

https://twitter.com/Avalanche/status/210768369908072448

Didn't think he'd make it to free agency after Dater stated Colorado was interested in bringing him back.

Decent player but 4 million seems a little steep, no?

Hefty price tag, but hopefully he can continue to be an effective player for them.

Probably would have gotten more on the UFA market so good deal for Colorado.

Even as I try to say "this is the new salary cap", the deal looks to be just a hair too much. He's been a good player, but I didn't think this good.

Whoa.

He's a nice player but not a 4M per year player.

Agreed. He has a 27 goal season under his belt. I'm really happy with this deal.

Matt Hunwick was also resigned.

That is too much IMO but the Avalanche are one of the few team that are no where near the top of the salary cap so they don't mind it at all.

Yikes I think we overpaid, but as a previous poster said, he'd probably receive that if not more on the open market

A 27 year old with back to back 20 goal seasons was going to get 4M a year on the open market. If he sticks with Stastny, he'll score 25-30 next year. He can play on the PK too.

Ok maybe he does deserve 4M.

But for 4 years?

I would have thought it would either be PREMIUM PRICE vs. LONGER TERM, but seems his agent got him both.

Wow.

Seems a bit pricey for a guy who doesn't appear to be that good of a 2 way guy...

I don't think it matters too much for Colorado. They have 45 million dollars to cram 13 players in. Literally all the cap space.

He would have probably got that from teams come July 1st, so if they like him(which they do) good for the Avs

He's actually a pretty good PK guy.

McGinn-Stastny-Jones had serious chemistry after the deadline and were the Avs best line.

He would have got that on the open market.

I would say he's worth 3.5 per season, so this isn't THAT bad. The guy still has the ability to be a regular 30 goal scorer, atleast.

Wow. The ol' Brad Boyes deal, eh? (Except Boyes was coming off a 43 goal season when that happened.)

What do you mean by 'appear'?

Do you even watch him play? He's a regular PK guy and is good at it.
