Jones is about to turn 28 which honestly isn't that young

And Kulemin scored 30 goals last year and is nothing more then a 3rd liner (2nd line tweener) it happen

It's a jump....to....conclusions board! I had an idea once!

Seems a bit pricey for a guy who doesn't appear to be that good of a 2 way guy

If you are going to put quotations around your paraphrasing of what others say you should tell people that you're not actually quoting anything.

All my response to that poster meant, was that to say he's not a defensive liability really doesn't mean anything. As IMO there are few players in the league who are. And all of them are guys who put up enough points to have that not be a big deal, or are useless goons.

Please show me all of these mid range players who are poor 2 way players, they are far from plentiful to say the least.

I never said, or implied he was in any lower tier when it comes to defensive/2 way play.

What you're doing right now is an internet classic...you've twisted things around to make it appear as though I said something I didn't, and then you're arguing that point that I "said" to try to prove a point.

Jones is a decent enough player, no upside at his age, has never had 50 points in a season and nothing about him screams "high end 2 way player" but with the cap where it is (and the likeliehood that if the cap goes down significantly there will be a rollback in player salaries) and the Avalanche having so much cap space it's a fine deal for them.

Yeah...why people keep calling him young is beyond me.

Kulemin is only a 3rd liner?

28 isn't that young in the NHL?

Wow.

That's a good point. It also helped that he was reunited with Stastny and with McGinn's arrival, they really lit it up down the stretch.

Jones had 21 points in the last 29 games played of the season.

Colorado is a team that needs to find ways to reach the cap floor. This and Hunwick, both overpaid now, is a good start. Cheers.

He's injury prone sort of so he's only had 2 full NHL seasons I think (but he did put up decent goal production in them but was absent from the first half of last season).

Honestly, it is overpayment but Avs need scoring wingers so better to keep than lose but this is a bad move if the cap goes down, irrelevant if it stays the same or goes up.

Him and Stastny have great chemistry and are great friends. Jones still has good upside, likes Colorado, and we have plenty of cap space.

It's not that much of an overpayment that people are making it out to be.

- I don't see how a guy entering his prime at age 28 means he has no upside at his age. Let alone the fact that he took a long time to make it to the NHL. He's got good years ahead of him.

- I never said that he was a high end 2 way player.

Completely ignorant. Congrats!

Still to be Re-Signed :

Matt Duchene, RFA
Erik Johnson, RFA
Ryan O'Reilly, RFA
Steve Downie, RFA
Peter Mueller, RFA
Jamie McGinn, RFA
Ryan Wilson, RFA
Jay McClement, UFA

At LEAST do the math before posting a bunch of nonsense!

I don't know anything about soccer, I think I'm going to go post on some soccer board somewhere about how Ronaldo and Ronaldino are cousins. [They 'might be'...I HAVE NO IDEA]

Something tells me the money a few UFAs get is going to have people calling this a bargain. Could be wrong, but people tend to overpay on July 1.

Fine value. People need to wake up and realize how much UFAs are getting paid nowadays. This is a nice job by Sherman especially considering the weak UFA group. Jones was probably the 4th best UFA forward.

People saying he's getting badly overpaid shows how underrated Jones is.

PA Parenteau and Andrei Kostitsyn are happy. They are now the #3 and 4 best forwards (behind Parise and Semin) and the bar has been set.

Doan and Whitney are still out there.

Good for Jones, I wanted him on the Leafs.

Holy hell there are some posters on this board that have no brain.

Jones is a back to back 20 goal scorer (would have been 3 years in a row if not for his ACL injury). He would have EASILY gone for 4.5 on the open market.

Its not a huge overpayment. Still dont like it.
I think he should have gotten 3 years at 10.5 m at most from us prior to July 1st.
But I guess thats what UFA does for you...
He certainly could have gotten this contract or even more after July 1st.

Everybody here calling this a severe overpayment is in the wrong Colorade Re-Signs thread.

That 4th year is kind of brutal, but all things considered this isn't too bad of a deal at all.
