If there was another goaltender in place of Khabibulin maybe..
Mason is the poster child for "needing a fresh start"

Looks like we have a deal. How do we send the paper work to Tambo and Howson?

Your comment could be used for Omark as well. The Oilers have Eberle, Hemsky and Yakupov that will all want top 6 minutes next season. No room for Omark.

I have no idea how Columbus values Mason.

On one hand, you have a Calder winning potential franchise goalie. When Mason was still good, he was a top 10 goalie in the league. That said, he hasn't been good for years. Does Columbus give up on him when he's still pretty young, or do they give him more time?

I see no problems with this trade. Anyone shoot a text to Howson yet?

haha i'd get rid of him too, i was just pointing out what i see as the only potential benifit to keeping him around. Pretty sad when thats the only redeeming quality...lol

He would be mentoring him on being a pro, english isn't his concern. If you move to a foreign country (which you would know about i have gathered) it is nice to have an older fellow to lean on especially one that can understand your origins a little more. It's a very minor consideration, but Khabibulin had a near hall of fame career so i do think he'd make a decent mentor.

I'm surprised that Jackets fans are on board with this. I'd do it in a heartbeat as an Oiler fan. Boulin is washed up and Omark doesn't want to be here anyway. I'd give them both away for nothing. Does Mason have negative value? I know he's been bad the last two years, but I didn't think Columbus would give him away.

washed up!!? Nikolai is still capable of being the starter on many teams in the NHL today.

Your right, Columbus doesn't need that kind of security in goal...they are set. C'mon, seriously?!

This discussion as been way too civil... Is there any way we can start discussing trading RyJo, Nash and the #2 overall for scraps again?

If the NHL season lasted 20 games from September to mid November maybe. Surely you jest.

Maybe. If so, I don't know how Boulin is an improvement. Giving Omark a chance might make sense though.

Funny you mention this because that's generally the length of time before the jacket's season is over...

From an edmonton perspective i'd do it 100%. It is a low risk, high reward deal for both teams.

why would the jackets want a 40 year old goalie? theyre rebuilding. Mason still has potential unlike Khabibulin and, Omark has potential like patrik stefan had potential, no thanks.
