I don't know how the rest of you feel, but here's my $.02. I think that as Pierce goes, KG goes, so I think it would be in the organization's best interest if Ainge amnestied Pierce or traded him, and then KG either retires or lets Danny know he wants to be traded. Start it all over, and be sub-par for a few years to collect assets (potentially lottery picks or mid-1st rounders and/or young players), and either: A.) Let them take their bumps in the road and build through them (lottery picks and/or young players) like the Thunder, or B.) use them as trade chips, like Danny did in 2007, to acquire multiple All-Star players via trade, setting the franchise up for the next big run.
They both have enough in the tank for another go. They have shaped the Celtic culture/identity like no one since the original Big Three.
Trade them this year, you get next to nothing in return. That ship has sailed.
Celts will likely be bottom-feeders for a few years anyway. Why not give it one more shot while you have two HOF candidates that still produce, and can also help the mold the future Celtics culture.
He's not gonna retire, assuming Rondo comes back healthy they have a chance to compete in the East with there only being like 4 decent teams (Knicks, Heat, Bulls if healthy and the Pacers) so they'd be almost guaranteed at least a playoff birth.
I keep hearing Garnett wont want to go anywhere else at this point.
I've heard of the amnesty thing with him, but wouldn't it be a better idea to sign and trade Pierce? I would think he still has value.
It's a long way down if you depend on the lottery. So many teams have been in that crappy team limbo.
Just seems you have to be a destination team like Miami and L.A. or your totally dependent on hitting on multiple players in the first few picks of the draft.
If KG retires, I think Pierce retires. If they both decide not to, I would like the C's to try and make a run for a championship for 1 more year with a healthy roster. Some changes have to happen to the roster though, especially the bench.
Think with Rondo, Sullinger and a full healthy year of Green makes them a better team than anyone in the conference besides Miami and Chicago with a healthy Rose.
If things go bad before trade deadline, then you trade Pierce and Garnett.
