the one-two punch of the NBA draft and NHL free-agency is driving me crazy. i really hope the dubs pick someone good who isn't awful - it'd be pretty heartbreaking to have had watched them tank for a bust (of course that's exactly what's going to happen).

Jerry West is essentially making the pick. so there's that.

I want Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

he'd be perfect but i can't see him dropping and i don't see them having the assets to trade up.

FORD: If Kidd-Gilchrist falls to the Warriors at seven, I think they make the playoffs in 2013.

SIMMONS: That's not fair. You just got the Warriors fans' hopes up — they're sitting there reading this piece and minding their own business, and out of nowhere, you set them up for yet another massive disappointment. The poor Warriors fans even get stomach-punched in hypothetical NBA drafts.

This anyone catch Mark Cuban's confrontation of Skip Bayless. This is probably one of the best critique of sports writing and reporting I have ever heard. What he says is relevant to all sports and especially to the Sharks. Just replace Lebron James or Kevin Durant with Joe Thornton or Marleau.

This really is astonishing stuff. In the end sports writing is primarily romanticized fiction.

The best part is at the end when Cuban asked Bayless what defensive strategies did Oklahoma city used against James.... This is when Bayless started babbling

Skip Bayless is an embarassment to all sports writers everywhere. the Mercury News' sports pages became infinitely better the day he left.

Lol ... but he really isn't anything out of the ordinary. He uses the same romanticized phrases that you hear all the time.

Recently Colbert had Frank Deford on. And Frank said that moneyball was the worst thing to happen to sports writting because it was all numbers. In other words the public was introduced to the concept of using facts and critical analysis to make decisions rather then romanticized or dramatic ********

it's funny though, when he was writing for the Merc, he wrote as if Bonds was the greatest human being to ever live, yet he never won a championship. Kinda hypocritical if you ask me. Its like, to him teams only win championships because of one individual. I guess he's perfect for ESPN though.

i find it funny that affable, genial, world-renowned chef Rick Bayless is his brother. can you imagine growing up with Skip?

Is that why the generic, old dinosaur resorted to soccer-bashing? Can't wait til they're extinct. Sports writers are awful everywhere, most definitely including the Bay Area.

Old news, but Ralph Barbieri is suing KNBR for $10M. Ten million for being fired? I know nothing about him since I'm not from the area, but wow.

He's easily the bottom of the barrel. A small wimpy weasel who has probably never played sports in any capacity rips on elite athletes and loves Tim Tebow.

almost felt sorry for skip bayless there. Cuban exposed him big time as someone who's all style and no substance. Couldn't even answer a simple question about defensive schemes. Not to mention that Cuban is infinitely smarter than bayless (he's a billionaire for a reason).

Been a while since I've been in the OT thread. Wanted to know how all my fellow job seekers are doing. Anyone get any interviews or offers since the last time we talked about it?

Obviously. This isn't the OT thread. It's the non-Shark sports thread.
