You're asking me to compare pancakes with giggle drops on them, to fluffy scrambled eggs. This is not fair. Where is the "both are softer than a cuddly basket full of linens and puppies" option? But if you force me to pick... I will pick Martin. Because he is undersized and soff vs. big and soff. More of a liability, however, maybe not as shameful.
This made me smile and has brightened my morning. Thank you Sir.
Maybe Martin's broken arm from 2010 was worse than we thought. He's never been a good shooter and was never physical but this past season it was embarrassing. Maybe it's the cause for avoiding any and all contact this much.
If Whitney was Paul Martin's size, he would have got much more of a pass. Because he was 6'4 225 and played a soft game, people hated him.
I think when he said, "playing a physical game isn't my style," he really rubbed people in Pittsburgh the wrong way.
Even when you take his lack of physicality out of it, though, he still went incredibly long stretches where he was just flat out lazy in his own end. Not in terms of hitting, in terms of hustling and getting his ass to where it needed to be positionally. That's what always irked me about him. His lack of physicality was never a big issue for me when he played engaged and focused and didn't take shortcuts. I think when any defenseman plays like that, he will get roasted, regardless of his size.
