Mueller's ok, as is Letendresse. So is Comeau, Jagr, and plenty other wingers. We should be able to find some help on the wing for sure. We'll have the same old problems if we don't strengthen our centre and defense.

I think that's why we could see Aliu make the team. I think Ott would cost a lot to get to.

Steve Ott is still under contract to the Stars for another 2 seasons, so the Flames would have to trade for him. He won't be cheap, as Flames666 stated.

Considering Mike Ribeiro was out of Dallas for a second rounder and a young kid with not a ton of NHL super-stardom upside... I wonder what it would take for Calgary to finally get their top line center.

Ribeiro, on Calgary, would more than likely be on the top line... So, what does it take to get Krejci out of Boston, Getz out of Anaheim or Stastny out of Colorado?

The knock on Calgary is not having a first line center in nearly a two decades... It might be damn near time to play every card in hand to get one this season. I don't see us making any kind of progress with our current roster (unless we make a splash in the UFA market).

Since Phoenix traded for another defenseman what do you think it would take to get Klesla? He could be that big physical defender we need.

Getzlaf is an untouchable and would be a massive about of payment.
I'd say statsny could be had for glenncross+3rd or bouw+4th
Krecji I think would take over payment but I think he could be had for backlund and probably would take a first round pick.

And we will have 6 D man with all left handed shots.

Problem with this is none of these teams are rebuilding.

Well, Boston isn't, we know that much; it's the perfect infusion of older and young players.

Colorado, not certain if it's a rebuild, but Paul's contract looks weird among the rest of them. They have young centers up the wazoo.
Anaheim, although not a rebuild, and although I also believe Getz is untouchable; Anaheim has been up and down the past half decade with a team that should be contending every year.

I still reiterate my point, time to go all out on a big center this year.
In two years we'll have three contracts, Tanguay, Glencross & Gio. So, I think there's room to try and make a big move this year; because it won't affect us massively long term (unless we're losing firsts)

You know in the cartoons, when the small devil sits on the guy's shoulder and gives him bad advice?

My small devil is wondering if Scott Gomez could have a bounce back season with Iginla and Cammalleri as his wingers. He'd instantly become a faceoff specialist on this team (he's nearly 50%). Flames could probably get him (along with a draft pick as a thank-you) for Matt Stajan and a conditional pick. It's a big risk, and probably a bad (horrible) idea, but thought I'd throw it out there. Laugh away my friends. Laugh away.

What is his cap hit for the 2012-2013 season?

Like $7.5 million or some terrible number. His actual salary is $5 million though - not that it matters much.

Pretty ballsy proposal. You don't make many comments like this so I won't give you a hard time.

I think Stajan could realistically do what Gomez could potentially do, hence I would just keep Stajan instead of taking that risk. Accounding to those player charts on advance stats that were given by Gleninator a wile back, Gomez was just as bad as his numbers suggested.

Don't get me wrong - it's not a great idea by any stretch of the imagination and I don't claim it to be. What gets me though is that Gomez at his best (assuming he bounces back) has a much better overall skillset than Matt Stajan at his best. Problem being, of course, is if he doesn't bounce back, then the Flames are stuck with his albatross of a cap hit / contract.

How long does that contract have left on it?

Just looked... yikes, it's up in 2014/15. Wow, that's a long time to have to deal with that mess. Then again, Stajan's is the same.

Literally, the only way I would take on that contract would be:

-if Montreal took Stajan; and
-if we got back our 2013 2nd rounder

That's the only way I'd even consider it. And even then, Montreal might have to throw in something else. That contract is god awful, and the Flames have enough big contracts as it stands.

It would have to be Gomez++ for Stajan. Something to really make us want to go through the trouble of doing that huge favor for them.

Gomez
Gallagher
2nd 2013 (Flames)

for

Stajan
Howse
5th 2013

Only way I do this is if the Flames get something good out of it.

Yeah, that's what I mean. For all the **** we take for having to throw in sweeteners when dumping our bad contracts, there's no way we're taking on someone else's unless it's worth our while.

I would rather have Howse then Gallagher, so were swapping a 5th for a 2nd. Not worth it taking on that contract.

Not sure how I feel about the huge Gomez hit. He needs to play a puck control system not run and gun and were not sure what kind of system we are going to have yet.

Gomez only has 2 years left on his contract. If the Flames can deal some of its own dead weight - namely Stajan and Babchuk - and can receive a couple of draft picks in return, you strongly consider making that deal.
