NHL reject Bruins Chris Kelly 4 years / 12 million contract. Cap issues for the Bruins right now.

How can they reject it, when he hasn't signed it yet?

Campbell said he hasn't experienced the same camaraderie on other teams in the same way he has with the B's. Agreed its a rarity.

Kelly said everyone on the Bruins "checks their ego at the door...a rare thing in pro sports." Adds: "A breath of fresh air."

It's a breath of fresh air to me also, and why I truly appreciate what the Bruins management team has put together.

No jerks are welcome on my team, and I don't care how skilled they are. Building a team of talented players who are good people, and care about each other, is building a winner.

What I'm wondering is what kind of cap problems the B's are having. Does the cap not get set until July 1?

I imagine the 70m thing isn't official yet, and until it is, last year's cap is the cap all teams must work with.

Even then, wasn't last year $64.3? With Kelly the B's are at $64.9 and are allowed to exceed by 10%

Agreed. I'm proud of these guys for being winners, AND for being good guys.

If that makes me a fangirl, so be it.

Pretty soon 80% of your team is going to be well paid and have no real threat of being dealt. Makes a team way too comfortable IMO. What if he goes back to his Ottawa ways of 13 goals a year tops, 15 assists or so? I know it is doubtful he will be "that bad" where we want him out of here, but what do you make of the Bruins owning 15% of all the NMC / NTC in the league?

There is another possibility. Instead of getting complacent a player might be most grateful for the NTC and play his butt off. Perhaps GM Chiarelli's willingness to work closely with the players, rather than the threat of being traded, contributes to the great team spirit in Boston.

Given the kind of character Kelly has I'd be surprised if having or not having an NTC would impact his play at all.
