Islanders-Washington

To Isles---Mike Green and the #16
To Caps-- #4 and Nino

Isles get a top D-man they need while Caps can draft an Offensive stud
either Gally , Grigs , or Forsberg.

If the Isles can then work their way into the 8-10 range after that and get Trouba/Reilly/Dumba/Reinhart then this would be a great deal.

Rather not trade Nino either. Maybe Strome instead.

Although what is Green's contract? Is he a FA soon?

Pass from Washington. Moving up in the draft isn't worth creating a hole in the roster while the team is trying to compete.

And Green is an RFA this off-season.

Green's a rfa,who made $5m this season.He's 1 or 2 yrs from becoming a ufa.

Is he willing to sign a reasonable, long term deal with the NYI?

Are his injuries behind him ?

Nino is involved. We'd take this and try patching Green's spot with Orlov/other players. Reward potential is huge. Faksa, Grigo and Nino. Holy ****

Injuries seem to be behind him, Islanders have had no problems signing their players to good contracts since the rebuild though that would have to be discussed in advance with him somehow.

Isles have had trouble signing some of their top ufas, which is why Snow does not make trades, sending top prospects or high picks away for impending ufas.In a major trade, costing a high lottery pick and top youngster,Snow would want to control the players rights for several yrs.

Right now, we are seeing the isles budget restrictions hurt them with their top ufa.
They want to keep Parenteau and he wants to stay, but because of the owner's budget restrictions,it looks like Parenteau will be leaving.

You'd rather trade Strome than Nino? What?

Isles still pass. Concerned about Green's injuries and I doubt he'll ever be the player he once was. Also, he'll likely skip town when his last RFA deal is up, with the Isles arena situation probably getting worse and worse. Rather take the chance at a top dman in this draft and keep a good forward prospect.

hate giving up green but orlov and carlson can step up, and getting grigorenko/galchenyuk and nino could give us our much needed center depth

He has to be qualified at $5m this summer.

And to get him to sign long term, would probably require a nice size raise. He has no ties or loyalty to the franchise like Nielsen,Tavares and Okposo. No reason why, Green would agree to a reasonable, long term deal with the Isles.

Also,I have a tough time seeing Wang opening his checkbook, with no progress on a new arena.

i see it working. a few conditions though;

1) Green signs a reasonable deal. 3 yr at $6 mil?

2) Green is proven to be healthy.

to those who say that Wang/Snow won't do it, i ask you - they'd pay Rolston $5 mil/yr, but not pay Green 6? i disagree...

not keeping Parenteau is not a matter of being cheap, it's about getting value. PAP is not worth more than $4 mil/yr

$6m per is not a reasonable deal, that fits into the NYI budget.

Isles would want a 4-6 yr deal, that would keep their 1st pairing d-man with their young core.Tavares signed for 6 yrs, Grabner signed for 5 yrs,Okposo signed for 5.

Until Green plays for a few months,I don't know how we prove Green has put the injuries behind him.

Isles traded for Rolston because they were losing Weight's leadership in the lockerroom and by exchanging Rolston for Hunter, were spending only $1m more of Wang's money.Rolston 1 yr/$5m vs. Hunter's 2 yr/$4m.

And it is not a matter of being cheap with Parenteau. The isles owner won't sell, won't spend more then the cap floor, while he waits for his lease to end in 2015.

So,Snow has to add players that fit into his budget. If Parenteau wants a huge payday,he won't get it from the Isles.Same for Green.

I just feel we have more "Strome" like talent than Nino like talent. We need some size. Last year was a disaster for him. Season him in the AHL and then evaluate. Power Forwards take longer to develop. I'd rather trade neither. But Green and one of the four top draft D-Men makes me salivate.

Green is coming off of two injury filled seasons and didn't put up many points last year when he did play. He has the option of taking his qualifying offer of over $5M and becoming a UFA after the season.

No way the Isles give up two top prospects for that and a mid-first.

Now fans who want this deal, just have to have 4 things happen.

1.Convince the Caps to trade Green to the Isles.
2.Convince Wang to re-open his checkbook, despite the arena setbacks.
3.Convince Snow that Green's injuries are behind him.
4.Convince Green to sign a 4-6 yr extension with the isles, at $5.3m-$5.5m per.

Easy

In essence that's a #4 and #5 pick for Green and #16. I think I'll pass.

washington takes that and runs laughing to the bank

even when Green was the leading playmaker in the NHL he wasnt much on defense, much like the Blue Jackets own James Wisniewski, and to hear James tell it the Isles werent too fond of his Style of play, so I kind of doubt the Isles do this

but if Washington is interested Id give Wisniewski, for Green
