I don't think the Finnish transfer agreement permits that.

NHL team pulling their prospect in the middle of the season? Unprecedented I'd say, at least I don't remember that happening

It would also burn a year of Armias ELC, if he stays in Finland the whole year it's my understanding the the contract "slides" over to next year

Edit: as Buffaloed linked above, if Armia doesn't make the big club, he'd be free return to Ässät. This all to me seems to be too much to deal with in January, if Armia, as expected, plays with Ässät until his military service ends (early December), plays in the WJHC around New Years, and then tries to play his way to the Sabres line-up.

He'll be in Ässät next year, after that, he's all yours with 3 years left on his ELC

There is no need to pull Armia from Finland next season. Let him finish his military service, let him go blow up the U-20's, and add to his game while with Assat.

I thought there's a transfer agreement for players that are under contract in the FEL, and the deadline happens to be today 15th of June. I'm not really sure though if ELCs count for that too.

But I don't see him leaving Ässät. And on top of that military service, he could have some school stuff to finish.

Congrats on getting a great prospect under contract.

Agreed. Assat is a great place for him next year, IMO.

I'm just thinking of what the Sabres did with Ennis in 09-10.

True, but Ennis didn't have military service or an exsisting contract with another pro team though. The Finns don't have a scrub league, it's not going to hurt him to work on consistency and performance there this year.

I agree. He will develop quite nicely in that league IMO. He will then be able to go right onto our team come 2013-2014 season as a first call-up from Rochester.

Well, Ennis was almost 20 years old at that point since he was a late birthday in the 2008 draft year.
If he had been a '90 birth like the majority of his peers, he would not have been eligible to play in the AHL until 2010-11.

Armia is barely even 19 years old right now.

He has enough holes in his game that he shouldn't be the first call up, but then again, it wouldn't surprise me based on their past decisions.

Bakes on the signing.

Great news. Hopefully he hops the pond next season.

Congrats to sabres!
I believe that Armia will dominate the FEL next season with about 50-60 points and then gets straight to the sabres second or first line.

Also interesting to see what Armia can do at the WJC now that he gets for first the time the best players availeble on the same line with him. He has been in a wrong role at the past WJC's (and in ässät too) when he's been forced playmaking too much. I think that Joel is at his best when he can just consentrate at positioning, scoring goals and humiliate defenders/goalie with crazy dekes when its 1-on 1 or sometimes 1-on 6 situations

The Sabres have agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal with 2011 first-round pick Joel Armia, according to reports.

The Finnish winger has signed a deal that could be worth up to $3.825 million, according to Swedish News and CapGeek.com. The Sabres did not immediately announced the deal.

Armia, who recently started mandatory military service in his homeland, is expected to spend another season in Finland before playing in the Sabres' organization. The contract will not start until Armia arrives in North America

Finnish winger Joel Armia, who signed a three-year, entry-level contract over the weekend, will play next season in Finland as a condition of signing the deal. Regier said the contract would thus not begin until the 2013-14 season and that Armia stands a good chance of being in the NHL rather than Rochester.

“Ability wise and projecting him, he’ll have to come to training camp but his talent and skill level would make it a possibility for him to play out of the gate,” Regier said.

He's a little optimistic in his projections, I think.
Armia will have to have a huge year to even be close to NHL ready IMO.

I hope there's not increased pressure to get him into the lineup just because he was Pegula's first pick.
