Now that we'll have Stuart are we really so certain Doug Murray will be gone? He could still be a good 5/6 dman. And we have a shortage of LD. Who will be the odd man out?

Which means nothing if he wants to sign here anyway.
He wants to sign here because his family lives in the bay area, if we waited until then to talk to him someone else could offer him more. Just because he expressed interest in signing here does not mean he wouldn't turn down more money for a little more commute to see his family.

It's his family. I can't think of a bigger leverage point a team could have. I will rip DW so hard if he overpays again and gives Stuart a bad contract.
not only would we be in a war with LA and Anahiem, as he said he wanta to move closer to home, but if we traded a dman at the draft, stuart has more leverage to get say 3.25/year instead of the 2.75/year id give him.
it also means DW knows he can trade a dman without the oh i think stuart will sign here, so murray can dealt. DW will be 100% certain whether stuart will be here.

Generally, you can get a discount off the July 1 UFA price if you trade for someone's rights and come to some agreement. For a guy that wants to play here and an organization taking a step to ensure that, it can give Stuart an indication that taking less with an NMC would be the way to go. And that kind of thing is tough to get any UFA to do during the sweepstakes even with preferred destinations.

Stuart says he learned a lot from playing with Lidstrom, he can pass it along to younger players today: "setting an example". #sjsharks
Stuart's heart was in San Jose all year and this was by far his worst in Detroit. Being near his family could bring back what he provided the wings in 2008 and 2009 however maybe.
What do you sharks fans think about Andrew Murray, I see he actually played about half the season last year? Just a plug, or can he hit or PK or anything?
