Cap is rising, Stuart is still a very reliable, top 4minute-capable defenseman and he is 1 month from being able to test the waters as UFA.

Sure, we know he wants to come closer to family and SJ is the perfect fit, but I don't think that's going to be the key factor on the terms.
I disagree for a few reasons. One, he's not coming off of a very good year. His playoffs alone were below his standards. He saw less time on the ice during the five game series than he did in the regular season. That's a telling sign in itself. There is questions with his abilities at this stage. He is roughly about where Douglas Murray is at with slightly more offensive ability.

Secondly, if he signs here prior to July 1, it's likely going to involve him taking a discount for the perfect fit and likely a bigger discount to give him an NMC so that he has security which will be another big thing for this. I doubt that it's about getting the most money or the best contract terms for Stuart right now. 3 years of ultimate security where you want to be for 9 mil is likely worth it to him.

Nope, we're trading for Webers rights on draft day.

Stuart was one of our most reliable D-men. He'll do well in San Jose, I think. He directly prevented many pucks from crossing the goal line this season. He can put up some respectable numbers for a defensive-minded D-man. He loves to chip in offensively during OT too. But his real strength is just being a real solid defenseman. He doesn't do anything flashy. Just quietly goes about his business.

It sucks to see him leave the Wings. He was a great locker room guy.

This actually makes me very optimistic about this move, since Boyle hasn't quite taken on the role of mentor for our young d-men.

The Jackets already have depth in D. They loaded on the side Demers and Braun naturally play for.

I'm not sure if getting him was the right move at all. I don't know if he'll be as good as we remember/want him to be and despite a hometown discount he could still take a fairly decent chunck out of the cap.

With that said though... good defencemen aren't cheap, and given who's own the down-side of our D, mabye I should just shut up and be happy that we didn't get another Semenov.

I don't know, I'm a wait-and-see kind of status here on him.

If they trade Douglas Murray and get a decent pick or prospect out of it, it's a win and a must-do.

I'm not entirely on the bandwagon that Murray is a lost cause.

The Sharks aren't very comfortable with Braun or Demers playing top 4 minutes and rightfully so. Murray is just a slow albatross on D. With Staurt they get a big upgrade (his passing as well as his skating) in speed and a steady reliable guy in the d zone who can hit. This fills a huge hole and it make Murray all but obsolete.

If they could get a team like the islanders third round pick I would be ecstatic.

were HOPING he'll still have that next season. If he does I'd be jumping for joy. I just worry he might not

It's not a question of Murray being a lost cause. Stuart is at worst even with Murray and if you get Stuart for essentially free and get something for Murray, it's a positive.

I won't be satisfied unless we can get Suter. I'm over Boyle even though I got his jersey. I wonder if I can swap it for Burns.

Doubt it. Detroit spends enough money on a mediocre 4th line. I'd like to see TOM get a contract though, I liked the guy.

I don't want the Sharks to give Suter a 100+ million. Let Suter's agent find a sucker...
