How do you figure Suter gets $100 million? Honestly.

Well he seems to want a lifetime contract and he will be the best D available on the UFA market and there are teams like the Wings for example who will now be desperate for quality D.

In reality he is probably worth 30 million tops

a hundred million is a little over the top but a cap hit 5.5 for 12 - 13 years may not be.

He doesn't want a lifetime contract. All he said is the next place is where he wants to spend the rest of his career.

Honestly, I am 90% sure that Detroit will make a godfather-type offer to Suter when the UFA period hits. I would be pretty surprised if he goes anywhere else than Detroit, unless he stays put in Nashville.

Wish we could afford to get Parise, though, if we're discussing acquiring one of this season's top-end UFAs. Would go one hell of a long way towards fixing our speed problem. (especially a line of, say, Parise-Marleau-Havlat. zoooom....)

If they can't resign Suter it wouldn't surprise me to see Nashville heavy in the bidding war for Parise it may even be possible to see them in it even if they resign Suter....

FTF with a stats analysis and less than excited about the possible signing.

You're way off. $30 million? $100 million? He won't get paid near either of those numbers. He doesn't have to sign his last NHL contract now, he just said he wants this to be the team he retires with (which doesn't necessarily mean he's working on a 12 or so year deal).

No he may have gotten a worse contract... 8 years at over 7 million... the contract I proposed for Suter is worth about 10 million more in total. So ok 11 years at 5.5 cap hit..

Whats going to stop him from doing so... To make his upcoming monster contract cap hit effective my guess is it will be for a lot of years.

30 million would equate to about 5 years at 6 million. Thats just a little more then Burns contract man... If you don't think he is going to get at least that I'd suggest looking a cap geek for while...

He did lose a step. But he was also playing with Kronwall, who is worse than Boyle defensively.

I think you misunderstood me. He's getting paid well over $30 million, but well less than $100 million.

Suter is twice the defenseman Burns is so he's not really comparable...

Right as I already said I would expect him to get around 56 to 65 million. And twice the Defenseman.... with that money you better hope so... That would be Chara money OH WAIT Chara got 37 million!!!!!! LOL

All of this steers away from the original point that you are being misleading by saying he wants a lifetime contract because he never said any such thing.

Look any club that would be willing to sign Suter would be a very desperate organization and right now Detroit, Mini, and even to an extent Nashville are very desperate orgs.

Well ok 8 years would be to the twilight of Suter career... over 35.. As for Campbell, won't he be 37 when his contract expires? I think your splitting hairs. It was a lifetime contract.

It doesn't mean they're where he wants to be.

Your right about Chara I cheated a bit... that was his previous contract which I think is more comparable any way.

We will see, but those clubs will be willing to throw cap circumventing contracts his way. There is a saying, how much do you not want to play for us?

If they don't sign him there is a fair chance they won't be making the POs next season whenever that is.

They will still be used in a bidding war, though.

It's not more comparable because Chara's previous contract came in a much lower cap figured league.

Sure if you believe so, what does that have to do with the left defense?
You need more balance to win at this level, especially since we have zero luck when it comes to guys getting injured in the playoffs.
We all know balance and depth are important, but every team goes through injuries during the playoffs. Its what makes the NHL so great, when the unlikely guys quadruple their goal output during the playoffs from the regular season. Bryce Salvador is great example of that.

I would never blame luck on winning or losing in hockey. It more about will than anything else.
