Former Shark Steve Bernier may win Cup

Don't look now but Bear may win a cup with NJ! Looking for some scoring support Wilson?

He's playing well, but 6 pts in 18 games isn't exactly scoring support.

So former 1st round bust carves out a career as a 4th liner...good for him.

always liked him. disapointed when he was traded. never really clicked elsewhere. i still see a 3rd liner with the ability to go 15-15-30 in him. just such a weak skater...

If you have been watching any of the NJ games, he has been playing well. You also hear his name being announced on a regular basis, in a non-negative manner. More than you could say about many of our guys this playoff "run."

Bernier por vida! Poutine on the Ritz!

If you play for enough teams you are bound to get lucky, he's on what is 4th/5th NHL team.

Bernier, you'll get no argument out of me. Michalek, I would wholly disagree with. He produced at a solid level with us and was valuable enough to make a deal where we eventually got Havlat.

I was more upset picking Michalek over Suter than Bernier over anyone really. I was not nearly as knowledgeable about draft picks at that time but I knew the team needed a potential #1 d-man and thought Suter would be perfect with his skills and obviously Gary Suter being here gave a little more bias towards it.

We could have had Getzlaf instead of fat Bernier.

Yep, that same draft we also chose Carle 2 spots ahead of Shea Weber....

Haha, I didn't pay much attention prior to the '03 draft, but I was jocking up Ryan Suter for simply that one reason alone.

Bernier was supposed to be a stud, and in his rookie season he was. Imagine Ryan Getzlaf, but as a winger. Bernier led the Moncton Wildcats in points that season with 101. The second highest point getter on his team, 82 (Karl Gagne). So you could see why a team would have been tempted. After his demise I was scarred and have not had the same man crush on any other Sharks prospect since (even Couture!).

The worst part about Bernier is that he had/has all the talent in the world to be that guy at this level but he just didn't have the drive for it. There is not one thing about him in terms of natural talent that he didn't possess at a quality level for the bigs but he couldn't put in the work.
