All of them will be NHL players. There is no doubt about that.

Just like Schenn and Carlo Col*unspellable*, right?

Gardiner is a good young player, but being a full-time top-4 comes well before being a top pairing guy.

Maybe this is the problem, some Oilers see this gem of a player in Gardiner that, frankly, isn't there.

He's a nice player, but top pairing? Come on now.

I feel like if he wasn't on the Leafs he would be getting much higher praise. Each time I watched him he looked unreal for his age. At this point he's developing faster than Petry and they are similar players.

I don't remember watching Coliacovo in his rookie year but Schenn was not even close to being as special as Gardiner.

The only defencemen on the Leafs that got easier matchups than Gardiner last season was Franson. Gardiner also led the team in offensive zone starts.

Somehow, Gardiner averaged 2.99 goals against per 60 minutes of even strength ice time. That's 13th worst among defencemen who played more than 50 games.

He was a rookie and will get better, but he wasn't that impressive last season.

Oilers give up Yakupov, 32nd and Whitney for Murray, 5th and Gardiner. Walk out with Murray, Dumba/Reinhart, Gardiner, Schultz (signed).

Leafs give up 5th, Gardiner and Schenn for Nash and Whitney

Jackets give up Murray + Nash for Yakupov + Schenn + 32nd

Future:
Gardiner - Schultz
Murray - Dumba/Reinhart
Smid - Klefbom
Happy? I'd be ecstatic...we clean out both TOR and CBJ, they would both say no. (and i'd use the 5OA for the last top-4 forward, or maybe the 2OA instead....or maybe both if i knew i was getting shultz)

CBJ might be close...but TOR is giving up 5OA+gardiner for nash?

IMO just take the 5OA out...i could take 2OA+Gardiner...and frankly might it be better for CBJ to have 2 (to take gally with yak) rather than johansen?

EDM: Johansen+Gardiner
TOR: Nash
CBJ: 1OA, Schenn, 32OA

This is closer imo...yours is such a pipe dream, i'd jump at without thinking.

Any smart GM would take the BPA first overall. Then in a couple of years you have a valuable asset that you can use to upgrade your Blueline and get a PROVEN defenseman

No it wasn't. You're giving away an ELITE prospect for a couple of good prospects, that's terrible, utterly terrible.

No it's not, it's the reality when the team OWNS the #1 pick, there aren't any other #1 picks, and there aren't any other ELITE prospects, just Yakupov.

You've been very consistent in your NEED to find a way to GIVEAWAY this pick, not really sure why.

Not to bring up the BBO thread again as it was closed, but do you think the oilers would be dumb enough to trade for LUONGO? THAT is pretty scary.

I would not want LUONGO ever ever ever, but in the spirit of this thread's title:

To EDM: LUONGO (ew)
to VAN: 1st in 2013, Khabibouln, omark. (LOL)

Gudbranson + Bjugstad for the 1st overall pick

do you bite?

Huburdeau is valued highly by Florida so they won't trade him.
Kulikov > Gudbranson

Bjugstad has size, 6'4 ,plays center, adds a one-two puch of RNH and him. Hall doesn't have to translate to center.

Gudbranson is NHL ready, he's young, big and adds toughness

Kulikov + Bjugstad

I would do it but Florida wouldn't, although Huburdeau-Yakupov would be lethal, same with RNH-Yakupov

If Gudbranson is "NHL ready" then he's made strides since the playoffs ended.

Shouldn't have been in the league this year.

I honestly believe we should be taking Yakupov unless NSH knocks on our door and says, "Would you like Shea Weber?" because Yakupov is an exciting, eccentric player. We can get D in other ways, it isn't rocket science. Look at Florida. Brian Campbell was picked up for Olesz.....OLESZ. Taking a D-man who will take 6-7 years to develop isn't a good idea. Even trading for a 22 year old guy who isn't proven may mean 2-4 more years of waiting. Pick Yakupov, improve the D through free agency and maybe trade, and we'll improve again. Pick Murray, and I don't see improvement considering we would bank on an 18 year old D to be the messiah. Once again, I've said it before, I don't think we are getting Justin Schultz, so it should be interesting to see what's in store in the coming weeks.
