Oilers become a Dynasty in 5 moves

First of all I understand how unrealistic this series of events is. But humour me, because from what I can see, none of these moves are ridiculous.

Step 1: Trade Hemsky and Omark/3rd or 4th Rounder to NJ for Parise before July 1.
- This makes sense for NJ if they aren't confident that Parise is going to resign, is a good return for rights, and just imagine Hemsky feeding the puck to Kovalchuk on the PP.

Step 2: With the signing of Parise, sign Ryan Suter.
-Rumor has it that they want to be together, and its safe to say they want to be in a strong hockey market. Edmonton is the perfect situation.

Step 3: Sign Justin Schultz
- These 2 moves above would definitely send a strong message to Schultz that the Oilers want to win now and are going to be very competitive. If we are already in the running as rumour has it, then this would surely put us over the top.

Step 4: Trade Paajarvi + to LA for Bernier
- I can't see how LA would turn this deal down, as Bernier is going to be stuck in Quick's shadow as long as he is in LA. Also, the Kings would get a nice shuffling of the deck in the prospects pool.

Draft Nail Yakupov and trade Ryan Whitney at the draft.

With the 5 moves above, the Oilers have been completely transformed into one of the most complete teams in the West. Yes goaltending would be a bit iffy, but with 4 potential 40+ goal scorers on the team and surely the best PP again, would we really need lights out goaltending that often?

Not resigning Smyth, trading Hemsky and Whitney, as well as Belanger and Khabibulin to anyone who wants them for even conditional picks at the Trade Deadline, Horcoff is off the books when Yak s due for his second contract, and voila, cap space to lock down this core of 6 players is pretty attainable.

Parise - RNH - Eberle
Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Jones - Horcoff - Hartikainen
Eager - xxx - xxx

Suter - J. Schultz
Petry - Smid
N. Schultz - Potter/Sutton/Peckham

Bernier
Dubnyk

Call me crazy, but I guy can dream.

Gonna get bumped into the proposal thread, but -

- Hemsky/Omark for an unsigned UFA - no chance
- Parise signing in Edmonton - no chance
- Suter signing in Edmonton or anywhere in Canada - not happening
- Tamaclowe being that active - chances are - maybe when hell freezes over

lol...Parise and Suter aren't signing here

$27 million of cap space going into this season with who exactly to sign? Plus $9 million created through the Hemsky and Whitney deals, about $4 million created with mid season trades of Khabi and Belanger for any picks that are offered, and Horcoffs contract off the books exactly when Yak is due for contract #2...

After Bob's list and recent rumours, here is my most recent fantasy.

1. Draft Yakupov 1st
2. Trade Gagner + Ana 2nd 2013 for the 8th + rights to Allen
3. Draft Grigorenko 8th
4. Sign Allen and Schultz
5. Sign Penner or Smyth
6. Upgrade Khabby if possible.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Hemsky - Grigorenko - Yakupov
Smyth/Penner - Horcoff - Paajarvi
Hartikainen - Belanger - Jones
Hordichuk, Eager

Smid - Petry
Whitney - Allen
Schultz - Schultz
Sutton

Dubnyk
Khabby/upgrade

Young but will be fantastic down the road, imo.

I would love to add Ellis. Not for first overall but I would easily trade PRV and Omark and second for him.

So Friedman in 30 thoughts says the Oilers are interested in Schenn and have asked about him.

We have Marek saying we have had talks with Carolina or at least Carolina would have interest in Gagner. Plus Rutherford has basically said hes open for business with the 8th.

We have from numerous local sources Reinhart Murray and Yakupov are the final 3 for 1st overall.

Any othet legit sources mention anything of late I missed on this rundown?

If we can get Grigorenko + Yakupov this draft, wow. That would just be absolutely filthy. Add in Allen + Schultz. Young, but scary, scary potential.

Love it. Only if Penner will take a reasonable contract, which I kind of doubt.

Hell, even if they don't sign Smyth or Penner, move Hartski to the 3rd line and Eager to the 4th.

Thought the more interesting note from his recent 30 thoughts was about Matt Carle.

Matt Carle wants to move out west to be closer to his home in Alaska, is a veteran passing defenseman who can produce on a powerplay.

The Oilers are the northern outpost of the NHL, they need a veteran defenseman that can pass the puck and produce on a powerplay.

It writes itself

The guy isn't a top teir and I've never been a huge fan, but he could help the team quite a bit give the lack of depth and talent the Oilers are running with.

Olli is getting nearly 5M/yr on the open market imo. After Olli, Wellwood and Arnott are the 2nd and 3rd highest scoring centermen on the market.

1) Trade Khabibulin to the Jets
2) Sign Josh Harding
3) Trade for Cody Franson in Toronto, don't know his value though so not sure what we would give up. We have Potter, Omark, an extra third rounder, other guys if someone wants to piece this together.
4) Re-sign Ryan Smyth once he realizes he needs to stay close to home.

This is similar to what I'm expecting. I expect us to have Potter on the second pairing in for Franson. I also expect Khabby to be in and not Harding. In other words, brace yourself for a long offseason. But hey, at least we know OKC will be taken care of.

Love it apart from resigning Smyth/ signing Penner.
I would be ecstatic if we could pull off a trade to get another high pick and snag Grigorenko although I have a feeling he will go in the top 5, not impossible that he drops out of the top 10 though.
I also think that we would look to trade Hemsky if we draft Yakupov.

If we get the 8th, are the Oilers more likely to pick Yakupov #1, knowing they'll get one of the top 4 d-men at 8?
