i don't think we're desperate for anything, but schultz is certainly the most attractive (nohomo) free agent on the market. only other guy that comes close is parise and he hates us.
Getting Schultz would not only be huge for this team going forward but it would open up several different avenues/options with players currently on the roster.

IMHO, it makes MDZ or Erixon easier to part with if the right deal comes along.

Agreed, but people around here seems to think that IF we sign Schultz, MDZ will be traded immediately for Ryan/Nash or any other major deal, which I think won't happen. The Rangers will wait and see how he adapts to NHL hockey and to the team, before they trade anyone. What if he isn't NHL ready?? Then you're down 2 Dmen.

Yes, what I meant is that, MDZ would not be traded in the offseason, just because we signed Schultz. Unless of course the Rangers acquired/traded for another proven Dman...

It does, but not during the offseason or even this season. He'd have to prove he can play top 4 minutes before we move from him. He's going to have to push guys like DZ and Erixon and take his minutes.
Rangers will do whatever possible to sign Schultz to Entry Level deal...as will all clubs on expected 5-7 team list

Torts has a pretty good track record of giving kids top minutes if they earn them. In the meeting all they have to do is point to Kreider, Stepan and McDonagh in the playoffs to show how he can earn top minutes as a kid if he plays hard and limits and learns from mistakes.

Not really, if he's actually ready he could pair up with Staal or Mcd depending on how the pairings end up during camp. Wouldn't be to suprised if Staal's back on the top line with Girardi out of camp, leaving a spot next to McD open if he's truely ready for 20min a night at the NHL level.
