You'd think Vancouver would be trying to move Ballard since he hasn't worked out too well for them, especially if they're going to go after Garrison and pay him big money.

How does Schultz compare to Brian Leetch at this point...or are they totally different and not even comparable ? What would be the best possible upside for Schultz ??? I honestly never heard of him until a month ago . US college hockey does not get much publicity here in Canada and usually I have found that the ones that get over hyped always tend to to fall flat .Chris Kreider was definitely the exception...but...the press hardly knew anything about him in Canada until he showed up in the playoffs .

I hope you didn't think I was advocating any team signing him to that contract.

$3 million is about what he's worth. I can see someone paying around $4.5.

He most likely will never be like Leetch. More like Rafalski or a poor man's Letang.

Who the hell is Sam Carchidi and why is anyone taking this as a credible source?

He's highly touted, I would say his ceiling could be very high.

So pretty much Steve Zipay. Not too credible, I don't think I've ever seen Zipay be correct with his speculation.

Never know. Who would have thought Brian Leetch would have become the player he became when he was just a prospect?

Clearly Schultz has a higher probability of busting than becoming elite, historically speaking more prospects bust than pan out and even more are just average than elite, but I would say he has as good as chance as any to become very successful in this league if he puts the work in and is dedicated in constantly improving his game.

Brian Leetch was a top 10 pick and was a HUGE blue chip prospect and he came with a ton of hype......much more than Schultz who was a 2nd round pick.

Did you watch Leetch in his prime?

I don't think it really matters. No considerably good coach will sign to play in Edmonton just yet. That's a destination for either a stop gap coach or a young coach who wants to grow with that team and make a name for himself.

Edmonton really isn't a viable option in my opinion. I would believe the top 3 likely destinations are Vancouver (family ties), NYR (best chance of playing right away and being on a successful team), and Det (similar reasons to NYR). Chicago would come 4th in my opinion depending on their pitch they could also be a player in these sweepstakes. Edm, Tor, and Phil don't seem likely to me whatsoever.

Fortunately I was able to catch some of Leetch in his prime. I was too young when he was first coming up to really remember him, but I caught the latter end of his prime and then the unfortunate demise.

I'm just saying, prospects are always hyped, I'm still sure no one thought he'd become what he did.

They seem to think it doesn't matter and that Tambellini would just tell Schultz who they are thinking of hiring. Yeah, that would suffice, lol.

True but there is/was a huge difference in talent between Schultz and Leetch.

I mean I don't think he'll become Brian Leetch, he's a different player first first and foremost. That's why Leetch was special too, not every hyped player will reach their ceiling the way Leetch reached his. But McD seems to prospering under Torts. Girardi and Staal have seemed to reach new levels under Torts. Sauer became incredibly shut down under Torts when people had lost hope on him too. Even Del Zotto, who was a defensive liability his first few years, became a dependable defender under Torts. Undeniably our coach has a track record with making defensemen into stars, if we're looking at our current Rangers team and his past TB team's. Ordinary defenders became useful under him. If Schultz signs here, who knows where his game will reach.
