Girardi and Staal have seemed to reach new levels under Torts. Sauer became incredibly shut down under Torts when people had lost hope on him too. Even Del Zotto, who was a defensive liability his first few years, became a dependable defender under Torts. Undeniably our coach has a track record with making defensemen into stars, if we're looking at our current Rangers team and his past TB team's. Ordinary defenders became useful under him. If Schultz signs here, who knows where his game will reach.
If he has a career as good as Rafalski's or what Letang seems to be on course for then yes, he would beyond fulfill his potential. That is even pie in the sky to an extent. Hopefully we all get to find that out.

Schultz’s agent, Wade Arnott, told The Post in an email yesterday the plan is for the right defenseman, who officially became a free agent yesterday, to come up with a short list of teams with which talks will begin tomorrow.

The Rangers, Canucks, Oilers, Maple Leafs and perhaps Blackhawks and Red Wings are expected to be on the list. Schultz, drafted 43rd overall by the Ducks during the second round of the 2008 Entry Draft, is bound to sign a two-year Entry Level contract for a base no larger than $925,000 and bonuses that could amount to approximately an additional $3 million.

Though there is a sense that the Kelowna, British Columbia, native would like to play in Canada, the Rangers — desperate for a right defenseman to complete their top four — will pitch the opportunity to play on a Cup contender with former Badgers teammates Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan and Tortorella’s record of fast-tracking players out of college into meaningful positions in the lineup as soon as is warranted, e.g. Stepan, McDonagh, Chris Kreider and Carl Hagelin.
Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...#ixzz1ytKPDwsJ

Everything which has been discussed here since March. The performance bonuses are $2,850,000. A category bonuses are worth $850,000 MAX. B category bonuses are worth $2M MAX.

McKenzie said last Thursday Schultz wants to make an immediate impact in the NHL. Playing in top 4 with Girardi,McDonagh and Staal gives Schultz at an immediate impact. Notice Brooks wrote to "complete" their top 4. Not compete. Top 4 minutes. Torts plays young players. Stepan went from Wisconsin straight to the NHL. McD needed 3 months in the AHL but look at the impact McD has made after his 2nd season in the NHL. McD is going to get a fortune next summer. He will get $4M per in a long-term deal. Tell that to those Oiler fans who say Schultz playing in Edmonton gives him the best chance of a big 2nd contract. Besides G,McD has become their 2nd most important D ahead of Staal. Kreider. Nothing needs to be said there. Hagelin. He spent 1 month in the AHL because he wasn't ready for the NHL in October. Torts wanted to keep him out of camp. DZ was given his opportunity by Torts as a 19 year old. Torts wanted Erixon and Thomas on the team last season but they weren't ready. Just look at the track record.

Haha. Scary indeed! The best wrestler I ever saw.

Hopefully Schultz' camp doesn't drag this out too long and he makes his decision relatively soon.

Schultz will meet with Newport today. They will narrow down the list of teams. Those teams will present offers. McKenzie said yesterday on NHL Live Newport has already done all of the "analytical" work on each team. You know Sather spoke to Newport yesterday about the Rangers situation on D. They want a top 4 RHD. That player will play major minutes in a top 4 with Girardi,McDonagh and Staal. They will play in front of Newport Sports client and Vezina Trophy winning goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers will offer Schultz the MAX and the opportunity to earn those bonuses. They aren't going to throw Schultz into the deep on the pool on a bad team. McDonagh became a great player playing with Girardi. Those two guys have become best friends. Mac goes to G's apartment and they play video games with Landon. You don't think McD's development was accelerated because of Girardi who is also a Newport Sports client?

Probably a toss up between him and Dan Gable(granted Gable was freestyle). Although Karelin was scarier looking.

Back to hockey.

Not only that but he's also more likely to get more minutes here too. Yea he's a van city boy and all but you could argue that Vancouver is on the back 9 with the sedins in their early 30's while we are still on the 2nd hole.

He has more people on the Rangers that not only he knows but they're all around the same age here.

Rangers sure seem to be as attractive a team as there is from a pure hockey standpoint...proven track record with young defensemen, room in the lineup and needed for important power play minutes, can easily pay him what he wants, several former teammates

if he just really wants to go to Canada or doesn't like the city, then what can you do, but the Rangers are strong contenders from a hockey decision view

Elliotte Friedman is reporting Toronto and Anaheim reached a deal for Schultz but the player had no interest and wanted to test free agency which he is doing right now. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...-thoughts.html

If he signs with the Rangers, great. But I wont be upset if we don't. Considering the fact that we just drafted Sjkei. The more the merrier... If we do sign him we have room to make a trade for big player cause were just so young at D.

That maks NO sense if he really wanted to go to the Leafs like everyone is reporting.

True, and especially considering there isn't really any one team that can give him a better deal. All the teams are working within the confines of the max entry level deal. If he was hell bent on Toronto anyhow, why not just ok that deal.

That no Toronto deal means one of two things to me:

1.Doesn't really want to go to Toronto.
2.Does want to go to Toronto, BUT wants to see if there are better options...

Either way, the Leafs are far from a given.

Only teams that worry me are Leafs and Canucks.

The only team that worries me are Canucks. I dont buy Leafs or Philly. Edmonton is somewhat of a chance. Nucks are probably favorites to land Schultz along with Rangers.

Schultz to NYR. DZ to highest bidder out of losers who didn't land JS.

He would get more ice time paying here.

Why? Canucks have the same hole on their right side that we do. Bieksa is their only top 4 RD. Salo is a dinosaur. I'm sure they'd like to cut his ES ice time by 2-3 minutes per.

Yeah the Canucks are big threat.

Turn down the team that drafted you to play for home-town team. Makes sense....
