Torts wants to coach NCAA hockey at some point in his career. He does that show with Bill Pidto and Mike Keenan. The topic was Keenan coaching college hockey in Canada. Torts said he wants to help mold young men at a young age and coach at that level. Part of being a college coach is recruiting. Go recruit Schultz.

I feel like we have a 45% on Nash unless things get nutty, and 30% on Schultz.

I think he will play for Van...

What 21 yr old kid wouldn't want to play for his hometown team.

Family wants him close, money will be the same...

If it is true that he won't even meet with Detroit and that he has possibly pushed off a meet with Edm, tells me he is almost certain to go home.

Not the worst for us as we won't have to see him much even if he does turn out great.

And seriously, we are deep as sin on D, I realize we need more O back there, but MDZ could very well make a huge step next year as should McD and Erixon when he comes up.

We need to look forward, and I mean at the forward to make the next step.

We are close, and I feel Sather (as much as I still hate him) will make the right moves for us to be in play for the Cup for the next 4-5 years-

I love how on the main board it's already down to Vancouver (the favorite) and Edmonton (the scrappy underdog).

Speculation speculation speculation.

All speculation.

If he was hell bent on Vancouver it would have happened by now.

The fact is, no body knows what HE thinking in HIS mind.

This was the Wings stuff from earlier today

Quote:
According to a team source, the Wings are prepared to give him more than just an opportunity to make the NHL roster.

Detroit will offer Schultz a guarantee that he'll be on their NHL roster to start the season. It's then up to him to hang onto that spot

Nucks fans are so uptight on how great their city is. It's ridiculous. You don't see Rangers fans thumping their chests for playing in NYC.

Schultz spent two days with Meehan and Arnott looking at each team. Two days. If it was so cut and dried, why not just talk with Edmonton or Vancouver and get it over with? Now they will have 2 more days of meeting with the teams. Ryan McDonagh didn't know anything about the Rangers until he came to prospects camp in 2010. He got a chance to interact with the Rangers brass and coaches. Schultz really doesn't know anything about these teams or the people running them.

That, you have a point. But its not like Vancouver is Beruit and are constantly rioting. Same could be said for LA-is LA a third world city?

Its also irrelevant to what was originally posted. New York fans constantly chest thump about playing in New York. I mean come on....

Yeah. It's true, we also do the chest thumping.

Which is ridiculous IMO.

Its whatever to me, I'm just saying that we do it too.

I mean New York is the center of the United States in terms of relevance(culturally, financially etc). I don't think its a stretch for people to say New York is #1.

With that said, it doesn't make Vancouver any less of a city. Its just different.

It's ridiculous how much attention he is getting and how he is handling the situation.

With the amount of media coverage and discussions/debates going on, you'd think Schultz is the best prospect since Lindros or Crosby.

If it was all about playing time, the Canucks wouldn't even get a call back.

With a reported 26 teams expressing interest, there's little doubt some general managers are willing to commit "time on ice" to Schultz before he even signs a contract.

And you can understand why that's tempting. Acquiring Schultz is a boon. He'd be a top-five draft pick, and he's ready now to step into an NHL lineup. He makes your team younger and your organization deeper and has the potential to make an impact immediately.

But the Canucks are positioning themselves as a team that stresses player development, and are unwilling to pledge the top-four role many believed Schultz was seeking when this process started.

Generally, the Canucks like to believe they're modelled on the idea playing time is earned, not gift wrapped. How it resonates with Schultz remains to be seen, because the Canucks aren't exactly loaded with young players who have been developed in the Gillis era

Someone here has been saying about VAN.....

The Rangers are "all in". The Rangers are looking for a RHD to complete their top 4. Go send Torts to wrap this baby up.

Schultz needs to be in a position where he can reach those bonuses. Its great for a team to give him the bonuses and then not give him the opportunity to achieve those bonuses. Is Schultz going to reach the bonuses in VAN?

Schultz turns 22 next month. Gilroy was 24 coming out of Boston University as a similarly sized, right-hand shooting defenceman with offensive abilities, and hyped just as much or more. He only spent five games in the minors, but has since been traded twice, with both the Rangers and Lightning deciding fairly quickly they could do better. The Leafs were after Gilroy hot and heavy back then, too, but the Rangers got him because they were willing to offer guarantees Toronto would not.

Gilroy was supposed to be a star, and maybe he will be with Ottawa, the team he joined last season. But his story should at least give teams pause with Schultz.
http://thestar.blogs.com/thespin/201...from-afar.html

Are the Leafs not interested in making certain guarantees to Schultz?
