Leaf board are convinced he is going there. Anybody know if the Leafs made a presentation?

After all of this attention it has become like the scene that end of "The Girl Next Door" with Avery's ex-gf in it...main character says "you better cure cancer" after it took him so long to get this "genius" of a kid to the US from a third world country.

Leafs fans always think everyone is going there. Never happens though. They think they are the center of the universe.

Anyone know how many Newport clients are on the Canadian teams on the list?

I honestly don't think that makes any difference. The decision is going to the Schultz's.

The other teams are canadian. We have his friends and former teammates. We need a RD bad and played Kreider immediately. Competing for a cup now. Grew up in BC, fine, but they don't fast track anyone in Van and don't really have a spot for him.

Trades can be made along with exceptions, but this will boil down to Schultz's perceptions.

If it comes down to cash in the end, he would come to the US team because of the tax structure. But, as said before, he would likely go to Anaheim then. He may also like the prospect of playing here with our unit of young, college groomed players. Who knows? There is no better city in the world to live in. It has to be kind of hard to turn that down to go live in a backwater or to live in a city that just isn't quite as good. That said, Vancouver and Toronto really are hockey towns.

Schultz's decision could be a seminal moment of the offseason. If he signs, it could make parting with someone like MDZ much more manageable.

Jack Johnson and a 1st fetched Jeff Carter. Dont see why MDZ+ cant grab a top 6 winger the team would covet....and it would be a lot cleaner than the Nash disaster.

Do we know if anyone from the Rangers org actually visited Toronto to give the presentation in-person? Or did they do same thing they did in the Brad Richards courtship, and do it via teleconference?

I know it got them Richards regardless of the format, but I'm wondering if to an impressionable young (ish) kid, if seeing the GM/coach/star player (in the case of Edmonton) fly half way across the country and give it in person sways him in their favour?

Alternatively, it could backfire and reek of desperation... *shrug*

I asked on the Leaf board and just got some snide answers. Brian Burke is out of town so who knows.

Not necessarily. If he had signed with anaheim while they still held his rights, then his max salary would have been based on his draft year. Now that he is UFA, his max salary is based on this year, which will net him an extra 100k.

2008 max ELC salary was 875k. Now it's 925k. 2 year deal. 100k extra.

We also don't know if anaheim was willing to give him max bonuses, or if he had concerns about his opportunity to earn those bonuses.

I don't know about you guys, but usually whrn the Rangers are one of a players final choices, but the news media doesn't report them to be the favorites to sign the player, that player usually signs with the Rangers.

Spector's not really one I would consider to be an insider. He compiles information from media sources.

May have been from what was said on TSN because he rattled off other tweets from Lebrun, Dreger, and McKenzie who did their segment on TSN a little while ago.

He tweeted that as MacKenzie said it but he left out that MacKenzie also said the Rangers are the other team in the mix and McDonaugh could be the difference.
