All those people who claimed "MacT will be back in the NHL the instant he's fired by the Oilers", I'm hoping to hear from you guys. It's been three years, but MacT is finally back in the NHL as you all predicted. With the Oilers

He lost the Minnesota job to Mike Yeo.

Yep. (not directed at you) I guess he just was not saying stuff to boost ratings.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the link to this thread, and for a second there I thought MacT was hired as a coach.

I think it's great that we sign all the old coaches and management that helped put us in a state of mediocrity in the past. It's a good way to ensure that mediocrity will continue well on into the future.
Doesn't want to coach anymore? Wants something less stressful, close to home?

He got cancer and was out of the game for 2 or 3 years, may have changed things about him, or teams didn't like the break. As for medoicity, it had nothing to do with coaching it was the players, The one year we got good players went went to the final

How many teams has Crawford been a head coach?

Now do Mactavish.

Hee haw.

It's the same nonsense with Lowe getting promoted for doing a crap job and likely Krueger getting promoted for being a part of the coaching staff of a cellar dweller.
It makes no sense man. The more things change the more they stay the same.
MacTavish didn't get fired for your normal reasons(not showing up, stealing, ect). I believe they let him go because he was burnt out and frustrated with the crap roster he was constantly dealing with. He's a very intelligent hockey person that is familiar with the operations of the company. You have no idea what is role even is.

Kruegar could only control so much. He was in charge of special teams and made very significant improvements there(3rd PP/14th PK). Should we clear out our entire roster because they were part of a cellar dwellar?

I wonder bringing MacT means that they are looking at hiring Jon Cooper. MacT has the NHL experience to support Cooper the up & coming head coach who hasn't coach at the NHL level.

I wouldn't count that particular chicken just yet, if the search goes badly there is a real possibility that they will slide him right in there.

I don't see why this is a bad move by the Oilers. Sure, he coached here before but he's actually a great hockey mind unlike Lowe...

Hmm.... thought.

Does this make him Tambellini's boss? Tambellini fired Mactavish. That seems a little awkward.

in a salary cap world it is to your advantage to get as much advisors, scouting, development and office advise as you can, Mac T is a smart hockey guy and will be a valuable asset to the team.

I'm surprised some many are having SUCH a pink panty meltdown over this.

The reality is Mac-T is being brought in as over sight for Tambellini. Do most of you really hate him more then you hate the created idea that Tambellini has no oversight in his position?

Four. And Crawford is still unemployed? How about Paul Maurice? Just because they aren't working in the NHL doesn't mean they aren't smart hockey people.

I thought people would actually be excited over this, considering that it means he won't be coaching here.

I was fully on board with firing MacT as coach but I have no problem with him being brought back in a management role. He always was a smart guy.

I'm torn because I do think MacT is a smart hockey guy but like I said earlier (and others have mentioned), it seems like the old boys club taking care of their own. We might have to accept the fact that if the Oilers ever break through it will be with some very familiar faces at the helm, not new and fresh ones.
