Meanwhile, down in Nashville, apparently there was a Sharks fan who was even more pissed off than I've been tonight. Stared a punch-up in the stands.

Guess you're not a baseball fan, that **** happens all time in the LA vs SF. Google Brian Stowe.

Heck, I saw (in person) a Philly fan go at it with Tie Domi once... Hint: if you're drunk don't ever pour beer on Tie Domi.

With the loss tonight, Minnesota has now gone six consecutive games scoring only 1 goal in regulation. In one of those, they added one in overtime, and had a shootout win in another. All told, they've had one regulation goal in 8 of 13 games.

After signing Suter and Parise, and after adding Mikael Granlund, and after the deadline deal last year to move Nick Schultz (no offense) for Tom Gilbert (no defense), the Wild currently are averaging the second-fewest GPG in the NHL with 2.08.

Maybe that's step three.

Manny Malhtora out for the year and probably career ending injury because he doesn't feel like he can safely play with his vision from his eye injury a few seasons ago. Feel bad for him

Bah! That sucks. He's gotta rank top three for my all-time favorite Jackets. Wish him the best.

Manny.

The bottom line on Manny Malhotra: there are deep concerns his eye injury/vision are not at level to allow him to safely play the game.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

Malhotra is reportedly not prepared to formally retire at this time but he's been shut down for balance of the season.

I'm not sure what can be done in between now and next season for him to be able to play? Very confusing and unfortunate.

Actually, it was management's decision. Manny himself has yet to issue any public statement. See thread on main board. He was gone from the active roster as of last game, and we were all wondering what was going on with him. Turns out, nothing good.

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows if there's anything to be done at this point. He's had several surgeries on his eye and, what, 8 months worth of offseason/lockout time to train.

And yes, this situation sucks so much. As someone who's watched every Canucks game Manny's played in, he's a shadow of the player he was pre-injury. 2010-11 season, he was an absolute defensive beast. The perfect 3rd line centre. Freed Kesler up from checking duty, destroyed almost everyone on the dot, and was by all accounts a terrific team leader. Now, he can still rock faceoffs, but beyond that he just can't play the game end to end. I can see where Gillis was coming from when he fears for Manny's vulnerability out there, and I don't even have the results of his vision tests. His peripheral vision must be just gone on the left side now. It's all he can do to scramble to the bench after defensive zone faceoffs.

Sucks, man. It's not often you see the phrases "universally liked and respected" and "Vancouver Canucks player" in the same sentence.

The meteor shower which struck Chelyabinsk and its environs has also caused some disruption to the hockey season schedule. The emergency services have confirmed that the walls of the Arena Traktor were among those structures to suffer damage, and therefore large-scale events at the stadium have been postponed. The sporting facilities will undergo an inspection by experts to assess the readiness of the arena to return to full operational use.
I don't wanna marvel about something that seems to have hurt a lot of people, but wow...

"Hockey game postponed by metorite" has gotta be a first.

Reading a different article, it mentioned that about 1,000 people were injured but only 3 transported to the hospital. Many with cuts from debris and glass. So, pretty lucky really.

Anyone else think Carolina may be for real? I'm in Vegas and just bet $100 for 50-1 odds on them winning the Cup. Not a favorite at all but they been playing well and I like odds like that.

And a 15-22 future first round pick to be named later as well.

potentially interesting news per Garroich (Yes, I know he is on the level of Eklund)

Capitals GM George McPhee is frantically trying to add some immediate help and they might be willing to trade 2012 first round pick, Filip Forsberg and 2010 top pick Evgeny Kuznetsov.

If true, it would be a great place to trade Brassard.
