The Hit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eno6Uo4d6ac

Let's all watch this again in slow-mo and see what we think.

At first watching it, I thought it was a bad call and that Scuderi turned. Watching it now, Scuderi was facing the boards the entire time. He started to turn his body back out, but at no point was he in a "hittable" position. Scuderi didn't turn away from the hit, he was facing away from it essentially the whole time. He failed to turn into it.

Bad decision by Bernier, but like many have said, and Brodeur just reiterated, that kind of play benefited them a ton all playoffs, and today they get the bad end of it. Give Bernier credit for playing his game and for manning up to the media.

Gotta say though, when you watch that clip over and over in slow-mo from that overhead view, it's pretty clear Scuderi's numbers was facing Bernier the whole time.

Who cares? The ref made the call, it's expected. What people are getting pissed about is how the refs missed a **** load of penalties before that. Gionta getting boarded by Stool and then when the penalty was called, someone punched/elbowed Volchenkov in the face. i guess that's ok to do.

Once Scuderi had blood and was hurt it pretty much had to be a 5, I believe that's how the rule is now for boarding.

It did? Seems to me the Devils were on the wrong end of most boarding penalites this SCP. Including the 2 bizarre tappy ones against Florida on icings that cost them.

If you get a major for boarding you get an automatic ejection, yeah.

The question was whether or not the major was warranted in the first place. I don't see why they elected for a major instead of a double minor.

We're not pissed about the major leading to a misconduct.

We're pissed that the hit was viewed as a major in the first place.

To me, it looked like your standard boarding call that drew blood. 4 minutes. No idea how the refs determined it to be 5. Just a bad call.
