Jones = 4 years
Stewart will get his money next year
I agree that Jones being a UFA plays a part, but Stewart is the better player by quite a bit. Also, since Jones is a 4 yr deal and Stewarts a 1, that should be even more reason for Stewarts to be higher.

Not sure you understand how restricted free agency works. No one gets a huge 1 year RFA deal.
You got that right. The hits just keep on coming. I can't believe what is happening to this franchise.
who are the free agents that would be better then getting oduya now...
Suter, Garrison, Wideman...all those guys are going to comand a lot more cash and theres no telling we could get one. What happens if you strike out on them...
there running very low. and when you bring up the cap hit, whats it matter if you save cap but have a worse player. You always talk about spending to the cap.

Right, pay one of Suter, Garrison or Wideman the price it takes to get them. They are all better than Oduya, all different price ranges and we have cap space to burn. Bowman blew his load on these resignings. I get that guys are getting resigned but like you said, still attractive options that haven't signed yet. May as well just give Wideman 5M for 3 years rather than Oduya 3.375M for 3 years. I don't think Wideman will cost that much but what's the difference? We have more than enough space to make up for the 1.625M difference.
The problem with Suter is Detroit is going to back the bank vault up to get him. They are screwed if he doesn't sign with them. I'd expect them to offer him 8 mil per if that's what it takes.
The best hope for the Hawks is what JJ said. He could buy a house in Barrington, and be within an hour of the UC and not much further from his hometown of Madison. Detroit can't compete with that.
