Agreed, to a certain extent. The players want what is fair for both sides, where as the owners just want more money instead of helping each other when they are already billionaires.

Neither really care what the fans want in the negotiation, but the players were willing to play without an agreement, and the owners weren't.

Owners are mainly to blame, PA just wants what if fair and they want to solve the agreement so they don't have to do this every 7-10 years.

In a labor agreement, neither side is ever conciliatory until they are genuinely threatened. It would appear as if neither side has gotten to that point yet.

The players want a deal that is fantastic for them, and the owners want a deal that is fantastic for them. Both sides are selfish, and neither cares about the fans one iota (as you noted).

EDIT: Have to agree with madgoat ^^^. Fehr couldn't care less about fairness.

i don't think that either side cares about being fair...although i do think the nhlpa is being the more reasonable of the two.

one problem i have is that the current economic situation is, in some ways, the NHLs/owners own fault. there are teams currently in cities that can't be sustained and need to be moved - and they haven't been. another one is that some of the teams started acting stupid with the contracts they were entering into w/ players and have now decided they don't like the contracts (or the effect of the contracts) anymore. i agree that the players share of the hrr should be reduced slightly - i think that the NHL should look to itself to fix its problems rather than just looking at hte players to hand back cash (now or in the future).

Of course the players were willing to play without an agreement, otherwise they wouldn't have extended the last CBA while the owners have been saying for years that they needed substantial changes and they would not continue the current agreement.

"FAIR" has a different definition on both sides of the table.

Neither side is any more likable in how they treat the league or fans in these negotiations.

if there's a lock out and the season is shortened, that doesn't affect the length of torres' suspension, right? there are still 8 games (+ any pre-season) he'll have to sit out?

I don't believe suspensions can be altered due to a lockout.

Yeah, just saw the Madden news on the main board.

Definitely wishing the guy the best of luck in his post-playing career.

Lando is the captain already? Surprising so soon but it was inevitable.

Stastny IMO should have got it

Sure his game has dropped off but he has been there longer and IMO deserved the C over a 2nd year kid

Landeskog is the wing version of Toews, I and others were willing to pay heavily to get him, Sherman made a great, smart forward thinking pick, if you give it to anyone semi-young now, Landy never gets it.

Taking the 2nd best prospect with #2 pick isn't exactly a hard choice or requiring lots of thought

I thought so, Take RNH and trade Stastny made a lot of sense.

Landeskog was not the sure #2 pick like it was with Hall vs Seguin.

Some had Larsson as #2, others Huberdeau.

I would have taken Landy as #1...

No...RNH still has far bigger upside. He was the #1 for that class as it stands now.

Lol...but i'm still not sold on Huberdeau, so what do i know

we all don't know. I just like Landeskog better and like what he offers besides scoring. If RNH puts up 80+ points for many many years to come, he was the better pick. If the point totals of both stay the same, Landy offers more

yes...but rnh put up similar points in far fewer games.

although it's just been a year, so far too soon to make any real judgements.

Not surprisingly, Doan has a deal in place w/ the Yotes and is apparently just waiting for the sale of the team to be finalized.
