Tyler Seguin on Tuesday agreed to a 6-year, $34.5-million deal through
2018-19 -- a $5.75 million annual cap hit.

So it's less than Hall...almost exactly the same as Skinner.

I was about to post the Brouwer signing.

I wouldn't want to see that extension in Chicago.

That's going to be a tough contract to live up to. He's 27 now and certainly not getting any quicker. I'm glad he got paid though. Easy player to like.

oh gross!

Horrific skate slash accident, as KHL’s Jan Bulis cuts Denis Sokolov’s carotid artery

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...medium=twitter

Quote:
In a game between Yekaterinburg and Traktor Chelyabinsk on Sunday, Sokolov's carotid artery was sliced open by the skate of former NHL journeyman (and blog inspiration) Jan Bulis — leaving a pool of blood on the ice as he quickly left for medical attention.

...

According to Sport Aktualne, a Czech site, Sokolov lost nearly a pint of blood when Bulis's skate clipped him at the start of the third period. Sokolov and Bulis were chasing the puck when Sokolov fell to the ice; Bulis attempted to hurdle him and continue the play, when his skate slashed Sokolov's face as he appeared to step on him.

Sokolov said he expects to miss his team's next game against Dynamo Moscow on Friday but will be back for the Sept. 20 match against Khanty-Mansiysk. Because that's what hockey players do.
it happens at about 1:15.

Arbitrator says Lubomir Visnovsky will remain an Islander.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it wasn't necessarily the fact that he didn't want to be an Islander... but that he appealed because he didn't like that his NTC was really never even brought up to him. Either way, with our recent signing he won't be an option with us, but I have previously said I'd like to puck him from the Islanders if the trade wasn't reversed.

Visnovsky was terrible last year and just got a year older, he is not even close to the same player he was just a couple years ago.

The fact that the Ducks were more upset about losing Brookbank than Visnovsky says a lot.

NHL and NHLPA submit new proposals. HRR bumped up to 49% to players, but by the end of 6 years (amount of time CBA in effect) reduces to 47%. Players gain $200-$350 million more then previous NHL proposal. It's a take it or leave it deal by Bettman. Offer off the table on Saturday. Unknown what the NHLPA's proposal had in it. Also 9% salary rollback.

I think there's some hope in that the owners made the offer without changing how HRR is calculated. If the players can agree on the definition then I'm very hopeful the season might start on time.

Definitely going to be a lockout. Fehr is insulted yet again by the owners offer and is refusing to pretty much not go lower then between 53-57% The players aren't negotiating at all here. This is ridiculous, they are all so greedy. At least the owners are TRYING, and its a shame I cant say the same for the players. Yes they are the ones that bring in a majority of the revenues, but come on!! Fehr continues to bash the owners and their offers, when maybe they need to take a look at their offers, which havent changed at all in the past 2 months.

I don't think the owners are really trying. They started off with a horrible proposal and are just offering things that are slightly less bad.

I don't think either side is really all that interested in negotiating. They've both decided they're fine with a lockout for the next little while and are posturing to make it appear that they're trying just to avoid getting slammed in the media.

No real progress has been made at all and I expect it to remain that way for a while.

I don't think the entire season will be lost...but it's obvious that neither side feels any real urgency at this point.

If they don't agree on how to calculate HRR soon, I agree that the lockout will extend into the regular season. No matter what happens, I'm not expecting an agreement before the 2nd week in October. Nothing to lose before then.

Still, they are making adjustments. And the NHLPA did change their offer this time to 54.5% player share, decreasing to x% not sure what that number is. I think owners should consider at least giving the players a little more, but for the majority a 50-50 type split.

On a side note, how many different ways are there to calculate HRR?? Shouldn't their only be one way?

Dumb question and it has probably already been posted. Have the owners officially locked out the players yet or do they have to wait until the start of camp?

Doesn't happen till tomorrow, when the CBA officially expires, if I understand correctly.

I can't believe the deal that Doan just got as well. He's been beyond overrated his entire career as it is and now at 36 he gets 21 million over 4 years. The guys had 30 goals twice in 14 years and seen the playoffs past the first round just once and now at his age his numbers will continue to go down.

The owners are ****ing stupid they don't want the players to have as much revenue anymore yet they continue to dole out stupid money to guys who aren't worth it. Doan and Brouwer would be lucky to play in the AHL if they happened to play during the 80s, early 90s when guys actually had to produce in order to make huge dollars.

You know the owners opted out of the deal, right? And then lowballed the union at 47%.

I don't think it's fair to blame Fehr at this point. That's not saying he won't deserve blame soon or before this is over, though.
