The bulk of the fans aren't from Bergen County(if they were they wouldn't have moved), they're from Central Jersey from Route 22 south. Instead of a 1-seat ride they'd have to switch at Secaucus(which has infrequent service to Hoboken before 7pm) or at Penn and take at least 2 PATH trains over. Good luck doing that 40+ times a year. And logistically it made no sense to put an arena there. Think Barclays without the subway service. Won't be a nightmare just for fans.
I don't think the move was necessarily to get closer to the bulk of the fanbase. I think it was to try and get as close to the center of the fanbase as possible, while also moving to a transit hub/location easily accessible by road.

Aside from the Arena debt, Newark has worked out pretty well

Morris County (North of Route-22) is Devils country.

No, I was dead serious what I meant, every single person in Morris County is a Devils fan....jk of course.

Look at the context of my reply to Marv.
I was saying a lot of Devils fans that go to games come from Morris County.
Myself and yourself included.

There is no county in North/Central NJ that has a fan monopoly of any team in all 4 major pro sports.

Haha..I didn't say you were 100% saying it was all Devils fans.

Yeah I saw that...but, yeah there's quite a few folks from up our way. Hoboken for us would be terrible. I don't mind Newark and we've been pretty lucky when we head to games as far as traffic goes.

For me, Newark is about a 20 minute drive.
Piece of cake in and out, I also take back roads once off Route 280.
I also have the option to take the train in severe inclement weather, but it's much easier to just drive since the Morris/Essex line does not go to Newark Penn.

The first few seasons they had the free shuttle from the Newark Broad station, so taking the train was more attractive at times.

Hoboken would not have been a good commute for us out here in Morris/Sussex.
I used to do it in the 90's and it was not fun at all.

Very happy with The Rock and Newark, from a season ticket holder's perspective.

As an out of state fan, I don't mind Newark... But then again, I stay at the really convenient Hilton right across the street from the Rock, and haven't really gone any further than the Edison Ale House or Brick City Bar & Grill. Lots of sirens going off at night when I'm trying to sleep.

Spent the last 15 minutes or so watching the goal on loop. Can someone explain to me:

A. What is McDonagh doing?
B. Where on Earth is Girardi going?

morris and monmouth are probably the highest percentage of devil fans in the state. the counties surrounding the rock are all infested with ranger fans. nothing pisses me off more than going to floyd hall arena in montclair (essex) and seeing 'we are all rangers' garbage on the boards. puke.

McDonagh puts himself in the best possible position to prevent the play from happening. That play being that either one of he, Lundqvist or Hagelin stopping the puck from going into the net.

And Girardi just wants to make sure he has the best view in the house of the magic that was about to happen.

Moved to Manchester in Ocean County, hour and a half to get to the Rock. Did not stop me from having season tickets. I also must say there are a lot of Devil Fans down here in 'Flyer Country'.

i don't think of ocean county as flyer country at all. tons of devil fans down there. west and south of ocean county is a different story.

if you take the parkway to 22 (think its exit 140 or so) you are past all the lights and BS which means usually no traffic....you only are on 22 for like 5 miles

I avoid 78 like the plague

i never have an issue with 78, although the construction can make it a little confusing.

I can't tell you, I'm laughing too hard watching it again.

Every single Ranger makes precisely the wrong play to keep the puck out of the net.

The people that run the rink are Rags fans and they are sponsors at Rags games.

But lots of Devils fans live in Essex County.
The towns in Essex that have long time and old Rags fans are Belleville, Bloomfield and Nutley.

And Somerset & Middlesex Counties can be included with Morris and Monmouth too IMO.

**And Eastern Union County, towns of Rahway & Linden have lots of Devils fans.
The "NJ Transit" towns where many NYers have moved to (Westfield, Montclair, South Orange, Summit, etc) are battlegrounds for sure.
