My point is, we're talking about a young player that just figured out his own league in Europe, and expecting him to come to the NHL out of nowhere and take a prominent role? That's some pretty wishful thinking. Pikkarainen had awesome Finnish league numbers too. Plenty of goals, a bunch of PIMs, he got here and did absolutely none of what the few YouTube videos we saw of him said he could do.

When it comes to these guys, I temper my expectations appropriately. If Pesonen turns out to be a decent player and his game transfers over here, I'll be ecstatic. Cheap and effective players are wonderful. I'm expecting more of a Bernier type situation than anything though. He'll probably start the year in Albany, and if he gets a call up and a chance to play and impresses, that'll be great. But making bold predictions about where he slots in before the ink on the contract is dry is just foolish.
I agree with you. None of us have seen this guy play in person except maybe a couple of our Finnish posters. Until I see him at prospects camp or training camp, I have no idea how his game will translate to the NHL, and how it will mesh with what Lou and DeBoer expect from Devils forwards. Penciling him in anywhere on the NHL lineup is complete madness.

And this is after I've spent two days laughing at Wild fans for putting Granlund in the top 6 in their line projections. We're better than that.

What number do we think he's going to wear. I'm thinking Sykora's 15. Can't wait to see it in the rafters.

4 3 27 30 26 9 17 15

I think Sykora comes back, and I'm really confident he comes back if Kovy somehow is doubtful to start the season. He'll play for next to nothing too. He'd come back for what he made this year probably which was a steal.

I'm fine with not re signing him under a few circumstances. One would be to re sign the entire 4th line, and play them every game they are all healthy unless there is some good reason we need to play a goon other than we're paying them. They got 10 goals in 24 playoff games. Maybe they won't get 40 next season I bet they don't. I can see them getting 20 though, and that would replace Sykora's production right there.

Imagine Kovalchuk on the left point and Garrison on the right point of the PP??? It would be almost impossible for the PK to collapse on one side and there would be rebounds galore. Garrison keeps the puck knee height and below which creates tons of rebounds, if doesn't blow past the goaltender.

I'd love Garrison but I think he's going to be too expensive.

Garrison is a good shooter, but he isn't a particularly good distributor. Campbell played that role in Florida. Garrison is also not right handed, something Oates and DeBoer want from the point man, although they may relax that restriction for a guy with such a good shot.

There is actually a free agent that fits this description pretty well. His name is Kurtis Foster!

Remember how a lot of people were mad we traded away Foster for Zidlicky? Now we can actually have both on the same team!

That's not really a good comparison, Garrison is much better defensively than Foster is.

You sound like a Ranger fan penciling Zuccarello into the top line and placing 20 goals by his name before he's hit the ice in the NHL.
