Of the players that were potentially available for a trade, or could be involved in a fair trade with both parties agreeing, what's there new value now that the Kings have won the cup?
Obviously the likes of Brown, Penner, Doughty and Quick aren't going to be traded but what about the likes of Williams, Drewiske and Scuderi?
Same for the Devils. Kovalchuk, Brodeur and Elias are unlikely to be traded but what about Tallinder, Zidlicky and Parise (In contract terms)?
What I wonder is what the UFA's in LA think now. Granted there isn't that many of them, but do they sit there and think "wow this winning sure is fun I'm going to stick around another couple years for cheap and try repeat" or "I've won already time to hit the jackpot".
I don't see it to be honest. The guy was making 3.4 last year so how much more can he really get? Especially given his offensive numbers.
This has been Stoll since he played with Adam Oates. Guy is very good defensively and plays a real grinding game. I just think now people are seeing this. Want to see something that shows how hard he plays, youtube Stoll blocking 2 shots against CAR from 2006ish.
I'd love to get him back in Edmonton on a 2-3 deal for something similar to what he is making.

When I say Stoll increased his value, I'm talking in comparison to what it would have been before the playoffs. Stoll was dreadful during the regular season and was looking at a pretty decent cut in pay. Hell, we Kings fans couldn't wait to get him off the roster. Now, I think he will get a contract with a pretty similar caphit to the one he has now
Penner scored 7 goals during the regular season, someone is going to REALLY overpay
He'll get a 5 year contract at 4.5-4 per and then he'll relax for most of the contract. He'll show up when it looks like the team is headed to the final.

I think that Scuderi proves they can end up getting both, even if the team offering the jackpot doesn't immediately look like a Cup Contender.
If Jones can fetch 4 for 4, Penner can get 4.5-5 for 3 or 4.
Now Penner is better than Jones?
Man, people really need something outlandish to cling to around here.
Some guys will have increased value to where they won't move (Zidlicky for instance). Others may want to cash in to finish out their careers (Stoll? Wouldn't surprise me).
But guys like Penner still have a lot to prove before they will even re-earn their current pay.

How is Penner not more valuable than Jones? He did have a horrid regular season but played huge in the playoffs.
Look at it this way. Every full season that Dustin Penner has played in the NHL, where he wasn't on the worst team in the league, he has won a Stanley Cup, and contributed greatly in the wins. Proven playoff performers fetch a premium. Penner will get 5 million I'm sure.
