These Kings have no intention of winning just one Stanley Cup. They want more. And they are not in any kind of salary cap conundrum, the way past winners have found themselves . They won’t have to dish off quality players - or any players really - the way the Chicago Blackhawks did after winning two years ago.
And while they won’t say so because they can’t legally say so, the captain of the New Jersey Devils is No. 1 on their off-season shopping list.
They want Parise, as do many teams, and they want him badly.
Parise fits perfectly into the Kings’ ultra-competitive philosophy, led by general manager Dean Lombardi and his able assistant, Ron Hextall.
Which is why Parise is so important to them. They love the way he competes. They love his skill level and natural leadership. While Parise has yet to speak openly about his future, the word that has filtered down to NHL general managers is that his No. 1 consideration in choosing a location next year is finding a team that just won’t challenge for the Stanley Cup next year, but will challenge every year.
Yeah and Doug Wieght said while on NHL network that he'd love for Parise to come the Island. We will just have to wait and see. Every team would love to have him.
How can they afford him when Quick is due for a massive contract?
The guy who wrote that piece isn't the type of reporter to think ahead. He sees Parise hitting the market and that's about it. Who knew that running a team also ment trying to fit salaries in a tight budget for the years to come and not only the following year (aka salary cap)
Someone should keep him aware of such things before handing in his final print, like that he wouldn't look like the idiot he is.
Considering they've got $16M in cap space next season with only depth players to sign (King, Penner, Stoll, Fraser), I'd say they'd be one of the favourites. Fresh off a cup run, strong young core, and plenty of cap space...the ideal fit for a top tier UFA.
And over the next 3-4 years, the only real raises will be Quick (probably from $1.8M to around $5M in 2013), Brown (maybe $3.175M to $6M in 2014), and Voynov ($817K to maybe $1.5-2M in 2013). Everyone else is either a veteran earning probably as much as they'd make on the open market, or else depth players who could be replaced internally or through the FA market.
Parise to pull a Hossa? Can't really see it. Although Lombardi goes after every star player so I'll expect him to make a lowball pitch to Suter and Parise.
isn't lombardi after all the star players...always lol
I actually think you wrong as dean wanting them. I think kolvochuk and richards come from higher up. The has been a need from management to sign a bonifed star to make noise in the area to sell the kings to the media and hollywood types. There is a difference for paraise. Its not secret to most kings fans that deans been trying to trade for him for 3 year or more. He loves his game and thinks ( as do i) he would be the perfect winger for kopitar. I fully except dean to go after him even harder then he did with kolvochuk because hes actually someone he wants on his team. Zach also says he wants to play for a contender for years the kings would/will be with or without him. He texts alot with brown and quick is also there so some team usa people hes familar with. All and all i cant see a reason as to why he wouldnt consider it. I can see nj signing him if not i feel he will be a king.

Kopitar: $6.8 mil
Richards: $5.75 mil
Carter: $5.273 mil
Justin Williams: $3.65 mil
Dustin Brown: $3.175 mil
Doughty: $7 mil
Mitchell: $3.5 mil
Scuderi: $3.4 mil
For arguments sake, Gagne is retiring (health and finally won the cup).
$38.55 mil locked in those guys. Cap may or may not be $70.3 mil (based on Cap Geek) next year. That doesn't mean it may not go decrease back to $64.3 in a year or so.
Bernier & Voynov are RFAs after next season and Quick is a UFA so LA has to plan accordingly. If Quick gets an upper echelon goalie quality deal (cap hit $6 mil X 8 years) that brings em close to $45 mil.
Parise would need a Richards/Carter like deal where the cap hit is around $5.5 mil to make this feasible.
I know Hossa did this but I'd personally feel kind of awkward going to the team that just beat me in the finals. I guess I'd still do it if the money's right.

Again see my other post on dean wanting. He has the cap room and will go alot for parise. I dont see suter signing with la. Hes a great talent no doubt but la has a great defense and i dont see them messing with it. Even if they do the will promote from within.
