The Homer I saw the last two months of this season was far different Homer from the past two seasons. He had energy, skated his ass off and played like he did a few years ago. If he feels he can do that again all season, I'd have him back in a heartbeat. I don't get people, past two years he looks like garbage and we all want him around. When he finally shows something, then we want him gone.

I hope it's 1-game contract.

For Winter Classic Alumni.

Two years ago we were still at cap hell.

Would you like to introduce what those changes would have been?

This is why I loathe Ken Holland, LEARN TO LET GO MR.HOLLAND... jesus christ(!)

No other GM is fuzzing around like this... it's getting embarassing imo.

Holland will gently give him an offer as the 14th forward and Homer will call it quits. Can't see him being interested in just traveling with the team at the age of 39.

I think the DRW should let him go.

I guess come July 1st we will see if all this "loyalty" that the organ-I-zation shows to it's players means anything to the NHL at large.

It will go beyond July 1st, but July 1st is obviously when we want our new toy. So it has to pay off then or we'll be mad.

I would have signed Olli Jokinen amaybe signed a guy like Konopka or Mair and then used a prospects, maybe Mursak, or Illari Filppula, or Ritola or Hat Trick Dick or whoever, instead of Bert, Homer and Modano.

we needed to get younger going into 2010-11. We got older.

Well, it needs to pay off at some point during the offseason b/c if the big free agent signings are bringing back Hudler and Homer and a middle-of-the-road d-man, we'll be one and done again in the PO's next year.

Illari Filppula is an NHL talent?

That's news to 30 clubs in the league...

How many times I have to say that we were so tight against the cap, that there was no other choises. You can say whatever you want, but the reality was that there was no other choises than sign cheap veterans.

Olli Jokinen signed with Calgary for 3.0 million.

We signed Holmström for 1.875 million and Modano for 1.25 million + 500k bonuses. total 3.125 million. After that 3.125 caphit we had 44k of capspace. Half of that Modano bonus (250k) that carried over to next season.

Jokinen 3.0 + 500k minimum salary player would not fit in. Mursak was maybe nearest prospect to think with his 646k salary. Was he ready two years ago if he ain't ready even two years after?

That's a fact that Holland could not miraculously change. Captain Bob can't change it miraculously, whining about it the next ten years or not. There's a salary cap and our Stanley Cup at 2008 gave big raises to our core guys and eat the space. Maybe Kenny offered 2.5 for Jokinen, that was kind of the maximum he could. But Olli took bigger money, a surprise.

It's time for Holmstrom to retire. His body can't take it anymore. We need someone with fresher knees.

I'll ask again, Bob: what do you know about Illari Filppula that 30 NHL teams don't, that you can imply he's an NHL-level talent?

Look. Do the math.
3M+750,000+750,000 = 4.5m
Homer+ Bert _ Modano
1.8 + 1.8 + 1.2 = 4.8M

So Holland SPENT MORE on his guys than I spent on mine.

That's a fact.
Do the MATH before you start getting all lecturey.

SOME of you guys just want to keep the gang together forever. It's not possible. They're going to go sometime. Might as well get over it and be opportunisitic about it

Would Jokinen have made a huge difference? I don't know. Does he make us one goal better that next year in the playoffs against the sharks? If we beat the Sharks, would we have beaten the Canucks?

No other choices?

It's absolutely pathetic how ridiculous people will get to defend Ken Holland.
There were HUNDREDS of choices. He chose the status quo.

Do you think Detroit will retire his and Lidstroms numbers? I wanted Drapers to be retired too.

I don't know if he's NHL material Soup Nazi. If not, we could have sent him down to GR and tried Mursak or Ritola or Tatar or Emmerton or whoever.

You have to change in life. Life demands it.

Locking in Bert and Homer for two years was a bad idea. I said it then. I stand by it. Not too happy about Bert getting reupped here, either.
Though at least we're not as locked up as we were last time around.

If status quo did not led us to the Cup, I want to see those choises that would have led us to the Cup.

That's the only difference what matters. 4.5 million used differently doesn't change a damn thing.

HAHAHAHA.

Don't even have the decency to say you were wrong when you lectured me about Holland having no choices? Or that you were wrong when you said my plan was not possible?

How you use $4.5M is important when it's the last $4.5M you have to spend.

You can use it on a younger, big, bonafide top sixer. Or you can use it on a 37 and 35 year old.

This team was two years removed from the cup and getting older and less hungry.

You need to manage a roster. Not try to keep it the same.

Or Olli Jokinen, Jan Mursak, Zenon Konopka.
There were hundreds of ways to change the team and make it better.

Holland went with the Country Club model.

Now, two years later, he has so many needs that he can't fill them all.

Seems like all the others only left because they were offered more elsewhere....Thankfully....

Not sure what people have against Olli I wouldn't have minded Holland getting him.
