Katic rumored to be signing with DEL team

http://www.bz-berlin.de/sport/eisbae...le1479867.html

I hope not, I really like Katic, thought he did well in his callup, if he recovers fully from his injury he might just make the Isles.

Update: Confirmed by Staple to be true and the Isles will qualify him.

What what what?????

Why would he do that? He was in line for a call up until he got hurt. I hope this is false.

Could it be another one of those insurance signings in case of a CBA stoppage and have an NHL out clause? Probably a better pay day than playing in the "A" if there's a lockout...

I think its just a straight up backup deal should he not make an NHL roster. I'm pretty sure he would have to get waived breaking out of camp if the Islanders want to place him in the A. So I think he may just be covering his bases if no team gives him an NHL shot coming out of the season.

But if there is one team in the DEL without financial trouble it's the Eisbaeren Berlin. But the article only says that the Eisbaeren allegedly are interested in Katic.

normally I wouldnt care about this but he's from my hometown so a little part of me would have liked to see him become a full time islander .

its unfortunate he injured the shoulder because he could have made the team last year or been called up enough to warrant a semi regular spot on the blueline

There is no way Eaton is being signed this year (He is UFA). We've got too many young D ready to come in. I figure Ness has to be just about ready and also Donovan...IF we do sign him..it won't be for more than 1 mil and it would purely be for depth as we have the knack for getting injured a lot.

Exactly. The article only states that they are looking for players and that they might be interested in Ryan Parent and Marc Katic. Nothing more.

In the grand scheme of things Katic won't make a difference, so adieu.

I don't blame him, he seems to have fallen in the depth chart behind other young, promising, PMD like Donovan, de Haan, Ness. It doesn't stop there, remember we have Kichton and Russo in the wings as well.

The injury to his shoulder is really what caused this and it's sad because he could have been a lock for the bottom pairing this year if it wasn't for that freak accident.

The article doesn't even have a rumor in it just that they are interested in him. Why do people act like something happened because of an article that says nothing other then they are interested in him?

Cause "we're all Islanders", and nothing good can come from that.

What did Aaron Ness ever do besides have a stellar year in Bridgeport and impressive call up in NHL? hmmmm

Just b/c a defensemen isn't 6'0" doesn't mean he can't be effective. Ness possesses superb skating and puck moving skills. He also has a tremendous ability to get his stick into passing lanes and read plays.

But I guess on HFBoards, we can look at a players height and weight and decide the rest of their NHL career. How old is Ness now? 21?

But maybe your right, think about how better off the Thrashers/Jets would be if they passed on Tobias Enstrom or sent him packing before he fully developed.

And, Scott Niedermayer was too undersized with New Jersey and Anaheim.

Posters with comments like these are probably the same ones who bash Snow for letting Spurgeon go.

No word that this is a done deal in the German news yet. But it is interesting to note that the GM of the Eisbären, Peter-John Lee, said that Katic wants to use his engagement with Berlin to make it to the NHL (like several others did before him). Here is an Eisbären blog quoting from an interview Lee have the German Eishockey News: http://blog.eisbaerlin.de/2012/06/ha...c-bereits.html (website in German).
