Mark Giordano for edmontons 7th overall pick + 2nd

Mark Giordano paired up with with Schultz would be one of the best duos in the league. Hes is exactly what Edmonton is looking for. For Calgary it speeds up the rebuild. Fair deal for both clubs.

Oilers should definitely not do that.

Makes sense for both teams but I don't think the 2nd rounder would need to be included.

That would give Calgary the 6th/7th overall picks plus two late 1st from St. Louis and Pittsburgh.

Plus they'd still have Cammi and Stajan to deal who should bring in some nice picks/prospects.

Plus lots of cap room.

The 2nd is coming from the wrong team, ha ha. I'd consider it, but if the 7th is available, I think there would be better offers out there.

Maybe if it was Brodie, but understandably the Flames won't trade him.

At any rate, if MacT is trading the 7th overall pick, it is widely accepted that he will try to acquire a pick later in the round to try and scoop up Curtis Lazar.

Bitter rivals making a massive trade?.... Nope.

It would be crazy drafting 6 & 7 while still holding two more picks in the 24-30 range! Definitely jump start the rebuild in a massive way... But like I said, wouldn't happen. Plus, EDM wouldn't need to add a 2nd.

I think the value is there for a one-for-one swap.

One for one, its pretty good... although Calgary's defence would look like swiss cheese blowing in the wind.

Giordano goes under the radar majorly in the NHL.

I would definitely consider this.

Smid-Petry
J.Schultz-Giordano
Fistric-Whitney/N.Schultz

Klefbom/Marincin

Wasn't Giordano pretty brutal this year? The value is there for a straight up deal, but I would say no from an Oilers perspective simply because we need a centre more than a defenseman long term.

I would do this without the 2nd.

Don't know how the Oilers feel about this though. I know they need defense so it feel their need. It depends on what other teams would be offering for the 7th pick I guess.

Trades this big never happen between bitter rivals anyways.

Could you imagine the flames defence next year without Mark?

One of the best second pairings in the league maybe.

Definitely no where near one of the best top pairings.

He struggled to start the year, along with many other players that never played during the lockout. He did however get better throughout the season.

Plus he is en route to being a Flames whipping boy as expectations have increased along with his contract so now if he doesn't play a perfect game he will be called out by fans.

When it comes to the trade I agree that in a vacuum it's pretty fair and I also agree that it is not right for the Oilers right now. Their need for a 2way center trumps the need for a defenseman IMO. So as long as they have a chance at Monahan, Lindholm or Barkov they need to keep the pick.

BUTIf Monahan, Lindholm & Barkov are off the board when pick #7 comes around maybe then the Oilers would consider it, but not before then.

Based on Gio's current value I don't see the Oilers doing this.

Personally though, I have a hard time judging players solely on a season as screwed up as this one. I think Gio will have a big bounce back year next season.

In addition many Flames fans when complaining about Giordano conveniently ignored that he was pushed up to the top shutdown pairing to play with Bouwmeester this year and he was pushed down on the PP depth chart with the addition of Wideman.

I'd do it if Barkov, Lindholm and Monahan are off the board.

I'm a little confused as to what kind of defenceman Oilers fans are looking to trade the 7th for if they wouldn't accept this.

The Oilers are way better off drafting a player with this pick then making this trade.

One that doesn't get slotted in behind Wideman on a weak flames defense, who's only bright spot is Brodie.

If you wanted to do something like

Brodie + Wotherspoon + St Louis 1st for 7th overall I think is close to fair value, but is a non-starter as neither team is interested.

If the Oilers are going to overpay in picks in a deep draft, it's going to be for someone better than Giordano...

Uh... what? Obviously the Flames don't do that trade. We're not looking to trade promising young players/prospects.

That wasn't my question anyway. It's widely been speculated that the Oilers are looking to trade their 1st round pick for a veteran defenceman that can play in the NHL next season.

But if the Oilers wouldn't accept a defenceman like Giordano, I have no idea who you guys think you could land. You're not getting somebody like Yandle for that pick.
