agree 100% with this. Howsen is just ******** cause he got burned pretty bad in two deals last year.. first giving up way too much for Carter, then having to trade Carter because he didn't want to be there to the Kings, who went on to win the cup. it's clear he's terrified now of making another deal so he set the bar for Nash way too high for anyone to reach. his demands are obsurdly unrealistic. he's treating Nash as if Nash is Crosby, Stamkos or Malkin. sure Nash is a good player, but he's what? a 65 point guy who's averaged 30 goals the last 3 years? hardly a mega superstar. and he has a ridiculous caphit too which should lower his value. what Howsen wants for Nash is a joke.

I actually don't think his cap hit is so bad (it's not great but not as bad as people make out) when you consider the length and the fact that the cap has been (temporarily) raised to $70.3mil (Would have been just over $73m under the expiring CBA). Either way it's surely going to rise. If (for example) you were to trade JvR for him (and other bits - this is hypothetical) you've lost 4.2m from JvR and 3.3m from Jagr and you still have a complete set of good top 9 forwards. You effectively take on $0.3m... Obviously this implies a JvR for Nash straight deal but you can see my point?

“@Eklund: I concur with @tpanotch. Flyers are once again in serious discussions about rick Nash.”

I just saw this too, I really hope there's nothing to it

What is holding up a deal is CBJ want top assets and Flyers wont agree to Schenn and Couturier. L Schenn deal last week a factor here

- Keep holding it up...

Seriously, Schenn, Schenn, and Read to Anaheim for Ryan and DSP.

With JvR out of the picture we are looking at less of a Cap it going out and probably more young talent with high end potential... I just don't see any advantage Nash can bring in any possible deal, short of an outright theft by Homer... considering the suitors who want Nash I'm not looking for Homer to be able to get away without losing a key young player or two. The way I see it Read+ would be the most bearable but nowhere in the ballpark... are we going to talk Coburn or Mesz and backtrack on D?... No, Homer, please no!

I think he meant that Schenn and Couturier are intouchables, not that they want both of them.

What could we trade to have Nash? Doesn't make sense to trade Voracek back to CJB, Schenn & Couturier are "protected", we don't have JVR anymore... we would have Read, Matt Carle's rights, maybe Mez, picks... nothing really impressing. I doubt it works.

That's awful.

Carle's rights hold no value. July 1st is tomorrow.

God, stop it. Nash with a cap-killing contract is not what this team needs.

Ah. Initially I left out Read--so Schenn + Schenn for Ryan + DSP, but it seemed a bit light.

Mostly, I'd prefer to do that (overpaymnet) to one which includes Couturier + Voracek or Couturier + Schenn to Columbus for Nash.

"Problem is, do the Flyers have the assets to do the deal without gutting their forward spots? Columbus general manager Scott Howson apparently wants both Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier or one of them with several other players."

What a joke.

Well, he would almost have to take Meszaros in any trade, if that's simply a cap dump, it lowers the value of the trade on our end.

That tired, old story of the Flyers and Columbus talking about Rick Nash resurfaced Saturday afternoon.

Two sources say the Flyers are in serious discussions with the Blue Jackets to acquire the proven 40-goal winger.

Problem is, do the Flyers have the assets to do the deal without gutting their forward spots? Columbus general manager Scott Howson apparently wants both Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier or one of them with several other players.

Given that the Flyers just traded for Brayden’s brother, Luke, last week, and used a valuable asset in James van Riemsdyk, that seemingly takes Brayden out of the picture. Couturier is almost untouchable in a lot of minds within the Flyers organization.

The Rangers want Nash even more than the Flyers, but so far, New York hasn’t swung a deal either.

Nash carries a $7.8 million cap hit over the next six years so any deal would have to see the Flyers lose substantial salary.

The Flyers go into free agency on Sunday with about $12 million in cap space, if they hold true to the league’s approval of a $70.2 million cap for next season.

The next CBA, however, likely sees that figure trimmed by several million.

What a joke.
Someone tell me that Howson and Holmgren are just locked in a conspiracy to drive Sather to stupidity.

That makes more sense than dealing Schenn and Couturier as a package for anyone...including Weber... let alone Rick Nash.
