That unexpected quip at the end by the reporter was pretty funny, "Remember your hometown..."

He is questionable to come out to the west coast, and we aren't going to give him the best offer. We will be there for sure with an offer, but it won't be the best, and he will have to come out to expensive California and travel significantly more. It would be a bigger commitment on his part.

Wonder if Zach "remembered his home town" when he bolted the chance to go to the U of Minn for North Dakota ?

Get over yourself. Both he and his dad were good friends with the coach and I find it funny that you think where he played college hockey will have any effect on where he decides to sign for (potentially) the rest of his pro career.

I'm not saying he's dying to come home to Minnesota for $5 million a year (just like all those "every player to Toronto etc. for a discount" threads from years ago), but I don't think it's accurate to say that where he grew up has no effect whatsoever.

Congratulation on grouping me with other Wild fans who say he'll sign here because he's from here.

Please, by all means, show me where I said that. Here's a hint, I never did.

Honestly, who gives a **** where he played college hockey or where he's from? I don't think either have much effect on which NHL franchise can give him the combination of winning and getting paid that he's looking for.

No one said it will. However, being closer to family (his and hers) when they are getting married and planning to start their own family could have some effect. No one is suggesting this will be a primary factor in making his decision, but all things equal it isn't insignificant.

Pretty much! I won't be the least bit sad either and that's the best part. I won't actually care.

I still think he resigns with the Devils.

This was posted in the Canes Forum. John Forslund was on the local sports radio this morning and said Parise was looking for $15M upfront. (Caveat: I didn't hear the interview, just sharing what one other poster said they heard from Forslund. I have no idea what context it was said in and how valid it is).

If that's true, I'm not entirely sure the Devils can meet that specification on a contract. They have balloon cash payments due as part of Kovalchuk's contract the next few years (11 mil or so each year). They also still have Brodeur intimating he's comng back next year who will also cost a few million. Even with making some money with the run to the SCF, it leaves some speculation and uncertainty out there, especially considering the finances/debt issues.

Not what I was implying. For the record, I don't think Minnesota is the front-runner. The best shot they have is to over-pay him, and I'm not sure how I feel about that to be honest.

I just think it's foolish to compare a decision to play college hockey 4 hrs away from home (as a young kid) and making a decision on where you are going to settle your young family (assuming they plan to start one) for the forseeable future.

I'm not at all implying that they don't like it in New Jersey, or that I think location will be one of the most significant factors in their decision, but let's be honest about this.

Minnesota has something New Jersey doesn't have. Proximity to their families. There are reasons why he bought a home in Minnesota (even though he doesn't play here). If he decides to come to Minnesota, I don't think the smart money would be on them continuing to own a residence in New Jersey.

And again, that has little to do with New Jersey, which I'm sure they both love. They just don't have the same type of connections to that area. The Devils have an edge in signing Parise over the Wild in a number of key areas. Location just isn't one of them.
