As an IT guy for many years, I'll just say this.

You're doing it right.

Eventually I'm going to try and convince them to stop paying $$ for their remote help desk support and instead give me half of their monthly subscription fee in a raise

Also, my boss forwarded me something today from a regional manager with the message "Joeblow let's work on this".

The message read "this is an auto-add (so EVERYBODY got the email) but a lot of your websites aren't meeting expectations".

Our traffic is up 50%
Our time spent is up 115%
Our form submission rate is up 235%

DID YOU EVEN READ THE DAMN EMAIL????

There are $1 sandwiches at Jimmy Johns today. My work partner and I have never had them before so we decided to go after work and check it out. There is a line out the door and all the way around the corner and 4 shop doors down. After seeing this I said "Screw this, I'm going home."

One day, a Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Chemical Engineer and and IT guy were driving down the street in the same car. All of a sudden, the car broke down.
The Mechanical Engineer said, "I think a rod broke."
The Chemical Engineer said, "The way it sputtered at the end, I don't think it's getting gas."
The Electrical Engineer said, "I think there was a spark and something is wrong with the electrical system."
All three turned to the IT guy and said, "What do you think?"
The IT guy said, "I think we should all get out and get back in."

I refer to that as the "technology nap." Works almost every time.

I'm with Clock here - I can't help but feel a little good that these boys are going to get their comeuppance one way or another. Maybe not the way 4chan is doing it via exposing phone numbers/addresses, especially if a parent didn't know what was going on (unlikely but possible).

I'm nowhere close to having children (and at 34 starting to consider that I might not ever) , but I can't imagine trying to figure out how to handle that. I wouldn't want them to handle it like I did; I dealt with crap for years because I was huge nerd, and I was on the swim team. Not exactly the a sexy combo. After years of abuse, in 8th grade, I mouthed off to one of the wrestlers who was giving me crap, and he came after me for it. I beat the living hell out of him; broke his nose, cracked a rib, basically ending his season. Only then did it stop; I wasn't an easy mark anymore.

It shouldn't have to come to that though, and that's what scares me about kids these days. When I was that age, a fight in the hallway was enough, and it was over. Today, it's guns, and bombs, and suicides.

Freaky.
Addresses and phone numbers is a bit much, but I don't feel even slightly bad that these kids are getting a taste. Sometimes, the only way to get through is to put them in their place like that.

You can bet your ass my kids would have had the fear of God put into them.

I'd rather that they be made to be bus drivers for monitors for a few decades.

Having heard plenty of stories from my step-uncle who drives a school bus at another suburban district, plenty more kids are idiots on the bus.

It's sad that I'm not at all surprised at all about what those kids said but after hearing what some of my friends who are teachers have told me over the past couple years, I'm not in the least bit surprised. Quite disgusting.

Reading and hearing about stories like that make me very glad my son is as well rounded as he is.

If I was a teacher and someone used that sort of language and behavior in my class, I'd fail them. Summer school, baby, and sink those college transcripts.

And I have a response to that -- "How dare your child have to suffer the real-world consequences of terrible, anti-social behavior brought on, no doubt, by terrible parenting."

At which point, I go with another bane of society and my lawyers have a field-day for wrongful termination.

Which is why you make sure you have another job lined up first.

I'd kill to be able to tell that to one parent.
