Lockout certain - Michael Wilbon

Pardon The Interruption host Michael Wilbon reported that Gary Bettman has been confirmed saying that a lockout is certain. If it is true I'm very disappointed as another year without hockey is going to be a long year.

They mentioned two main points the owners want to address:

1. Long contracts
2. Revenue sharing with players

Thoughts?

Very disappointing indeed. I believe I read recently it was expected to be a month long.

Michael Wilbon is ESPN, not TSN.

if Owners and Union can't agree every new CBA then CBA's should be 15 year long contracts... this is ********

What do you think the thoughts are going to be....haha

Is this guy reliable for information? I see no mention of this on TSN's site. Although I will admit I have heard rumblings about it, but Bettman confirming there will would be a first if I am not mistaken.

Yes, but TSN airs the program. Also there is no ESPN option in the thread creation.

If they know how long the lockout is going to be then they know what the agreement will end up being.

Id like to thank New Jersey and all the other teams exploiting the CBA for this lockout.

I think this may be a little posturing on Bettman's part to try to force the issues.

Most players remember the last lockout and they basically caved in on most demands however there are a lot of teams in the States on the brink and I'm not sure all would survive another lockout this year.

I'm guessing there isn't pre-season either unless they don't hammer out a CBA until then. Would cause for a sluggish first month of hockey.

Don't think they go past december though, the Winter Classic will probably bring in 15m+ in revenue, owners will all want their piece of it haha.

Another lockout is stupid.

At some point the higher ups in the NHL and NHLPA have to realize it makes the league look like a joke, and it's not going to help the league grow if every decade they take a ****ing year off.

It's certain and not even a single discussion was made between the NHL and the NHLPA?

Right.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a shorter season but I honestly doubt you'll see another year lost. The last one really opened some eyes.

In the same bit that I was referring to that I read, the date is supposed to coincide with the new TV deal's start.

And also Donald Fehr, for being such a stubborn hard-headed a$$**** throughout all of this.

Simple the NHL has the lowest revenue of the four major sports with the highest pay-out to players. The shenanigans in Glendale, Quebec City, Markham and prior to that Winnipeg all show that owning an NHL franchise is a disaster (in a lot of markets) unless you get a taxpayer built arena. (even then it is dicey).
I have always said the NHL should give an expansion team to the NHLPA for 1/2 price, let them run it and see just how tough it is to make it all work.

But at the end of the day, this is just a start of a lot of posturing, unless Fehr is on a complete ego trip a deal will get done with little interruption.

I just hope it isn't a whole season this time. Would hate a long year without hockey with only the draft to look forward to. Hard to say how this might go. The players know how it went last time, but could also gamble that the owners would cave with so many in a tough financial situation.

Just have to keep hoping for the best.

People say it will be until the American Thanksgiving but how can they possibly know? I'd like to point out some good news. We'd have the best shot at Nate if we go all year. That's worth it IMO.

When PTI stars talking anything hockey I turn the channel. Take this with the tiniest grain of salt imaginable.
