Damn you Jets

He's everything you want in a 4th liner and then some.

The big question is:

Can I take him to work?

Danggg. I was hoping he'd make it to 7/1 so the Sabres could have a crack at him. Great 4th liner.

Wish my team had given this type of $ to a guy like Slater instead of Cody McLeod

Good signing.

Would have been a better signing if it was the other Slater...

It's too much money for a 4th liner, but I'm glad to have Slater re-signed.

Need to have 4 lines. Can't just have three plugs making minimum. If Glass gets 1.6 that would be too much.

Very happy about this signing. jimmy Slates is one of my favorite Jets, a very down to earth guy who is beloved by our fans. I think he could slide up to the 3rd line and do well with more skilled linmates but he is the glue guy in our bottom 6 and I am fine with him on our 4th line.

thanks Chevy and Jimmy

My thoughts exactly. McClement might be the guy we have to go after hard now.

Great re-signing at a good price. Slater was a guy I wanted. Great bottom 6 center, good PKer, and leader. I knew it was likely he wasn't going to make it to the market. He's a fan favorite and loves Winnipeg and the Jets were smart not to let him go. Good for them.

A high quality 4th liner should be making $2 000 000 with the cap almost going, even possibly surpassing $70 000 000.

Amazing deal.

A copy of my post from the Jets thread:

I thought it was a bit much at first but now I'm quite happy with them paying that for the versatility that Slater brings. Of the Jets 4 regular centers last season, the face-off percentages were: Slater, 54.4%; Little, 49.6%; Burmistrov, 44.0%; Antropov, 43.4%; with Slater taking 25% of the teams draws - only Little took more. Amongst Jets forwards Slater was also first in short-handed time-on-ice per game, first in blocked shots, third in hits, sixth in shots and eighth in goal-scoring.

Good signing. Little more than a 4th liner should make, but with the intangibles Slats brings it is more than fair for both sides

Great signing by the Jets. Slater is the kind of 3rd-4th line guy that winning teams have.

Not an overpayment at all like some people here seem to think, the guy would be a 3rd liner on a healthy portion of teams in the league. Great face off guy, plays very physical, has good speed and a pretty good release. Good value. Even the useful bottom six forwards are getting off the market, this is going to be a long summer...

I like the signing because of what he brings every night, but let's not go overboard. He's not a 3rd liner on any winning teams. He's the same with Greg Campbell for Boston...Great 4th liner, but if he's on your 3rd line then you're probably not winning anything.

With healthy portion of the league I was mainly talking about non playoff teams. It was just a reply to him 'being overpaid for a 4th liner' when he really isn't your normal 4th liner. He could probably be a 3rd liner on 10 or so teams in the league, and those teams 3rd liners aren't all making less than $1.6 mil. But Slater is a consistant 20+ point forward, you could defenitely win the cup with your 9th best producing forward being a 20-25 point guy, especially one who brings all the other stuff he brings. It all depends on how the rest of your team is built really.
