Slater re-signed

Confirmed on twitter by multiple sources.

On the iPad, can't link.

So we'll just say "confirmed with Lynk"

Great news!

Sara Orlesky on Twitter:

Jim Slater says it was pretty easy negotiations. Told his agent that staying in Wpg was his first choice

Jets site says per team policy, terms not disclosed.

When do the terms become public?

Perfect. We are all good guessers. Love this contract, totally reasonable. He could have beat that in UFA for sure too, so it's just really all a warm fuzzy feeling.

Typically about 5 minutes after they say they won't be disclosed.

Absolutely. He isn't necessarily worth more, but with how bone-dry FA is right now he would for sure get more.

I'm guessing he wanted a term of more than two years and the actual $'s were slightly more trivial.

I am gonna bet that there is some kind of NTC in there though.

Very happy about this re-signing. Would actually hope to see him move to the 3rd line, and Cormier slot into the 4th.

I'm very happy to have Slater back.

Really liked to hear that the Jets were his first choice!

Slater conference call

During the Slater conference call:

Drew to Slater: With Glass saying he is 85% are you happy to be back with your GST teammates?

Slater to Drew: Probably not as happy as you guys.

haha.

We will have everything from the Chevy press conference which starts in 30 minutes via @illegalcurve if you'd like to follow along.

I'm also glad. The money is a bit high but cap space is clearly not an issue at this point and I think it's worth it to have a player of his character around as a mentor for the younger players. His face-off and penalty killing abilities also warrant it.

I'd also be fine with him playing on the 3rd line, although that'd be the end of GST, as neither Glass or Thorburn are anything more than 4th line players. Likewise I think Cormier will likely slot in on the fourth. Another possibility is Cormier playing alongside Antropov on the 3rd, but it's far too early to predict lineups at this point in the summer
