The "Banjo Bowl" moniker was coined by Blue Bombers board member David Asper in early 2004, inspired by an infamous comment made by Bombers placekicker Troy Westwood in the week prior to a 2003 Western Division Semi-final game between the two teams. Westwood was quoted in the media as saying that people from Regina were "a bunch of banjo-pickin' inbreds." He later apologized half-heartedly for those comments, saying that "the vast majority of the people in Saskatchewan have no idea how to play the banjo."
I completely disagree. They were up by 1. A field goal would mean Sask would've had to come down and score a major. It's a ridiculous call in my opinion.
They absolutely had to kick a field goal, I can't believe they went for 1 or even the corner (coffin) kick, plus the Blue Bombers kicker hit 5 field goals, why not give the guy a shot. Awful coaching decision.
The Lions traded Brandon Peguese to the Ticats for futures. Weird. The guy seemed pretty good on special teams. No room for him, I guess?
With Peguese gone, they can activate Steven Doege to fill that spot on the defensive line and, since that would put us at 21 non-imports, release Joash Gesse or put him on the practice roster. Which would leave a spot for an import linebacker, if we needed one for some reason...
