That was in response to a series of posters who asked for:

- a 2nd line center
- a top-6 winger
- a top-4 defenseman

(all in their mid-20s).

You cannot construct a return that matches those demands without adding assets from Anaheim.

thus:

- Schenn
- JVR / Voracek
- Mez
- 1st (20th)

for

- Ryan
- 6th

Again.

Schenn >= 6th

JVR, Mez, 1st =< Ryan.

It seemed like a decent deal to me. I actually think it is a modest overpayment, which is why I suggested a middling prospect from Anaheim, but I wouldn't hold the deal up on that point.

was what you posted.. They said no because they want JVR + Schenn + Voracek + Meszaros + 1st
How about:

JVR
Voracek
Mez
1st

FOR

Ryan
6th Overall
Smith-Pelly

Given that the price for Ryan has been established at JVR, Voracek, Mez, and the 1st, I don't think that would fly.

Seriously, though. We can't get Ryan and the 6th without including Schenn or Couturier--both because of value, and because Anaheim's biggest organizational need is a 2C.

Then switch out Voracek with Schenn.

That's the exact deal I proposed--though I imagine we would have to settle for less than DSP.

Like I said, it didn't go over well.

You people realize schenn won't get moved unless holmgren feels like he definitely has a steal? He has to keep him and develope him

I honestly would probably try Schenn, Simmonds, Mez, 1st for Ryan and 1st.

If you think about it, that trade essentially boils down to Mike Richards + Mez + 20th overall for Bobby Ryan and 6th overall....

That, to me, is pretty fair.

For some reason, I can only think of how well (hopefully) it would turn out if he played for the team he grew up loving.

Schenn and Simminds (and a second) were traded for Mike Richards last season, in case you didn't recall that, so I was simplifying the value for a more reasonable comparison of past trade value... try to keep up.

Yeah it's kind of interesting that with all the rumors flying around about the Flyers with Nash, Weber, whoever Schenn's name hasn't really come up except in HF proposals.

As for that quote about what the Flyers management said to prospects, that holds about as much water for me as a bullet-riddled sieve. What do you expect them to say, sitting at #20, to a top-15 prospect?
Eh...not what I really meant.

I guess I really meant when is the last time we made a draft day trade where we moved up in the first round?

Let's not act as if the "rumor mill" OR HF Boards are an accurate portrayal of what is actually being discussed. It's all speculation meant to keep hockey stared fans occupied because the real negotiations are happening behind doors.

Holmgren has too much of a hard time actually keeping a pick in the first round. Making a trade to advance in this round is too many loud noises and shiny objects for him to ignore, I believe.

JVR + Schenn is fair value. They lose time in developing JVR to replace Ryan, but the trade off for that time is that they pick up a blue chip prospect in Schenn.

Look at that team. They need more depth.

The Flyers get Ryan, who is a time traveled JVR.

Briere can move over to center and the problem of having 5 centers is solved (who plays wing this year?!).

I suppose I'm alone in being against JvR + Schenn for Ryan.

No, you're not. I don't really get that excited over Bobby Ryan. He plays with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, he damn well should have good numbers.

I wouldn't do it either.

I would rather gamble / bank on JVR breaking out-- and then the Flyers retain Schenn. I prefer that.

The trade value is fair/close/whatever, however.

I'm with you guys. JVR + Schenn would be absurd from our point of view.

If we're giving up two of JVR/Schenn/Voracek, I expect the Ducks 1st rounder to be in play.

I'd (probably) do JVR + Schenn for Ryan + 2nd / DSP

I would definitely do it if we swapped 1sts as part od the deal.
