I just hate the "so and so athlete wants to go home" BS

it is one of the more over hyped things in sports. how often does a player in the prime of his career leave via UFA to go to his hometown team, in any sport?

Ya, that annoys me too, but I'm not surprised by it. Probably no point in pursuing it.

No, of course not. But his comments went rather beyond the normal lip service. If he wanted to, he could have easily just said, I want to come back but we'll see, or said nothing at all, and nobody would have given it a second thought.

Instead, he dropped several references to being here next season, so many that TG specifically commented on it. Why do that if there's any hesitation about coming back on his part? Obviously nothing is done, and the money still needs to work now, but this is not a guy looking for the exit, like some have said.

I'm sure Zach's agent(s) nearly had a stroke with the "No way" to the Rangers quotes. Even if he really doesn't want to play for them, from a financial perspective, doesn't hurt to string them along and keep them in the bidding to drive the price up.

Well, I'm sure Nanne's leaking of Minnesota's offer brought his blood pressure right back down. That will raise his asking price.

That depends, how often does the hometown team make the highest bid?

I think the more important question is how often does the hometown team make the highest bid and have a solid chance to win it all?

I don't see Parise going to a team as bad as the Wild no matter the price.

Yes they're on the rise. Yes Parise makes them better. But why would he invest 2-3 of his prime years helping them rebuild. Especially with the amount of winning he did this year.

because everyone loves where they came from and everyone they've ever played with. This is why everyone wants to reunite with old teammates too

Yeah, I don't see the Devils getting Rafalski'd by the Wild.

But there will be absurd money offers out there that the Devils will never be able to compete with.

If LA, Detroit or Boston throws down one of those offers, I can't see them being easy to resist.

This is where we just hope he's somewhat honest and puts a lot of value in his captaincy, his teammates, his coach and his belief that the Devils are back on the path towards continued postseason success.

I think it will.

IMO the Wild will at least be fined like Toronto was - this "but Nanne isn't an employee" argument holds no water with me.

Also, dont necessarily expect to hear anything soon. When Toronto was fined for tampering re: Sedin (on comments WAY less severe than this Parise thing), the comments were made in June, the news of the fine didnt come until October.

Unfortunately you aren't the one making the decision. I know that the NHL is a private league but would all that circumstantial evidence hold up in a court of law? I doubt it.

If Zach doesn't sign with the Wild, it probably will be a fine at most but if he does, I'd be stunned if there wasn't a major investigation and severe consequences.

Yeah and I definitely see the Wings throwing a good amount of money at him.

The Wild are awful. They've been bad since the departure's of Rolston, Gaborik, and Jacques Lemaire. Don't think he wants to go play on a team that likely is a toss up to even make the playoffs right away even with his contributions.

The Wild just reek of desperation to get a Minnesota born player.

I agree. Nobody who is serious about winning jumps ship from a team that just made the Cup Final, for a team that is in the middle of a rebuild.

He values his captaincy, and he definitely loves playing for DeBoer. I'm just hoping he feels that he has unfinished business here.
