He's probably not. But Kelly didn't test the UFA market. Much like Glencross he signed a cap friendly deal to stay where he wanted.

Crappy UFA class. Every team wants someone who can win faceoffs, who is big and tough.

Paul Gaustad will for sure cash in. If it's a longer deal, it might be around 3 mill.

I don't see him signing for 2.5 or under. If he does, well done.

Didn't Regier say in his deadline press conference that they never even negotiated with Gaustad? I've always been confused as to where this $3M figure came from...

I was under the impression that Regier had talks with him about both options and decided a 1st was more appealing than putting together the kind of deal Goose wanted to stay. iirc, he wanted a fairly long contract too, which was probably the bigger problem considering he's had some injury issues.

Yeah I like him but not at 3 mill

Apparently McClement rejected a 3 yr, $7.5M offer from the Avs and I think Gaustad is better than McClement. So either these guys are being pretty optimistic about the market for 3rd/4th line defensive centers or they're about to get paid.

He's a glorified Steckel, I'll never understand why he gets so much love. He's worth around $2 million but we all know how the open market works and how some GM's cannot wait to blow cap space. He likely gets closer to $3.5 million a year. I don't hate Gaustad by any means here btw.

If Gaustad gets more than $3M, he will be well overpaid. He is a great face-off guy, and has that nasty edge. Truthfully, I would love him on the Oil if we did not have Belanger eating up the spot and cap space.

Sorry if posted elsewhere, but it seems both sides want him in Nashville:

Quote:
The Predators are interested in keeping pending unrestricted free agent forward Paul Gaustad, and it sounds like Gaustad has interest in the Predators according to his agent Michael Gorman.

“We have spoken with the team. Both parties are interested and looking at options for the future,” Gorman said. “I know that Nashville is interested in keeping Paul and Paul definitely enjoyed his time in Nashville, so it’s our intention to see if we can get something done, and there’s still plenty of time for that.”
