Leafs top 20 Prospects... Update?

Question for the Leaf writer(s):

The Leafs top 20 prospects hasn't been updated since August... we're almost halfway thru the hockey schedule (AHL, CHL, Europe) so I was wondering when the next prospect update will be?

Thanks in advance.

I can only assume that Vorobiev dude would be included in the top 20?

Honestly I never even heard of him before. But from hearing the rave reviews about his play, and some referring to him as one of our top defensive prospects, he should be included in there. Looking forward to reading more about him.
Adam: Are you writing anything on him? Or do you have anything on him so far?

Kukumberg is doing fairly well in Russia this year. He has 17 points in 32 games..

For comparison Petr Sykora has 19 points in 26 games playing in the same league while Datsyuk has 11 in 26..

The highest scorer in the league has 32 points, so that's not too far ahead of Kukumberg..

Ponikarovsky has a goal and an assist in 12 games

Antropov got cut by Ak-Bars, signed with Yaroslavl and now has 3 points in 4 games with his new team (all assists)..

Adam Gonsalves:

Will Colaiacovo's freak injuries have any impact on his ranking?

I'd have to agree on Carlo. Although he suffers many injuries, the do tend to be ones that are not serious, nor are they repeat injuries too often. With Antropov, we have a guy who will always injure his shoulders, however Carlo just seems to injure a diffenret part of his body every time. Carlo likely needs more strenth training, and possibly a better stretching routine prior to games and he should get a few less injuries. Although that wouldn't fix the occasional bruise which has kept him out of games. I think the only question mark would be his ability to play through pain, but I can't be certain as I'm not totally up to date on all of his injuries.

That makes sense, he was not resigned this past off season due to poor play for several seasons.

Opportunity is a huge part of success. I've read that a number of teammates are injured, so perhaps this is his opportunity, or he's finally put on some size. When he was first drafted I heard he was a stick.

Sagat for example has been a star in a number of recent games as Dawes is at the WJC. Opportunity. It isn't just talent that comes into good showings.

Adam when you say he was not resigned ..by whom do you mean the Leafs Organization or his Russian Club team ??

Mapleleafs.com.the official site for the NHL still has Shinkar on its Prospect list and continue to track his stats as a part of Leafs organization as they should..

http://www.mapleleafs.com/images/pdf...ect_report.pdf

Euro drafted players remain the property of the NHL team until they become UFA age (31 currently) or are officially released by the NHL team and that usually only happens after the player like say for example Vladimir Anitipov (round 4 #103 overall 1996 NHL Entry Draft) tries his hand in North America and then when his contract expires it was not renewed and he became a UFA.

A Euro drafted player like Luca Cereda came to North America, however he was offered as a RFA a qualifying offer and as such will remain a Leaf until he reaches the age of UFA determined by the CBA agreement.

A Euro drafted player playing in the CHL when drafted abides by the same rules as all other North American kids and needs to be signed within 2 years of their draft or they either re-enter the Draft or become UFA depending on if they are under 20 or over 20 ..

So do you have some information that Shinkar was released, because according to official sources he is still a Leaf ..

How can you resign a player that was never signed in the first place??

Please see my above post for Euro Drafted players..

I am confused do you have a link that says he was released, and why would the leafs do that if there was no need to ??

I am going from the profile that Doug updated before he left.

While I do not think he is much of a prospect, which I am used to as that is nothing new among Leafs picks ..

However , I believe that is in error on Doug's part ..If you check the Mapleleafs.com site I provided.. perhaps he was thinking of someone else..

You can also see TMLfans.ca ..http://www.penaltybox.com/roster/ to see he is still listed among Leaf prospects, and they are a very reliable source in such matters as they actually provide the Rock Report for the NHL and Leafs on their website, and like yourself as a writer have direct access to Leafs management and prospects.

And we know Doug writes for Mckeens and if you have access to thier prospect database info ..They as well have Shinkar listed among Leaf prospects which they have just recently updated ..

He was drafted in the 2000 draft (Boyes drat year) and Markus Seikola the Finish Dman was drafted just ahead of him and he is still a Leaf prospect, as should Shinkar be .. however at 23 he is getting dangerously close to be considered a graduated prospect by HF, but then I don't understand how theirs works because if you read the criteria for Euro players , one criteria contradicts the next as you found out with Kukumberg when you asked recently ..

Man thats a lot of support I feel I am giving for a LONG LONG shot prospect I must say ..but just doing my job

Darn you Ulf for mentioning him

While my instincts say to go with the prospect report, I am also aware that sometimes Leaf writers can get info that I cannot. I am checking into it and will get back to you.
