I doubt Burke trades Liles. I wouldn't do it anyways though. Liles was our best dman before his concussion. If he can return to the same form then we are a much better team
The only defenseman I'd trade Clowe for is Gunnarsson. I love Liles, but he makes our d-core much too expensive, and he didn't look the same after his concussion.
Why would the sharks ever trade Clowe? The guy is extremely valuable... there are hardly any powerfowards in the game. It would cost an extreme overpayment.
I couldn't see any reason the Sharks would make that deal 1 for 1. Clowe is only 2 years older (27 vs. 29), Clowe has out produced Mac on a regular basis, Clowe is way more physical then MacA and is way harder to replace in the line up. The $400,000 cap difference isn't enough savings to justify the difference in overall game contribution.

The only reason we would trade him is because right now we have 4 'slow' players in our top-6. Thornton (good skater, but plays a slow game), Clowe (slow skater), Pavelski (average) and Couture (average).
Also Clowe is a UFA after this season and we likely cannot afford his next contract.

Yeah, I don't see why some Sharks fans are into MacArthur. He's a good player, but I'd require Kulemin if we were sending Clowe to the Leafs.
Liles is washed up. If you want to see close go to toronto i would purpose carl gunnarson and 2nd for Clowe. San jose needs to start bringing in some youth and not only youth but quality youth. Gunnarson is a guy who is just starting to get his feet under him, is steady all around and can contribute offensively. He's not going tone a top offensive forward but he will bring in quality depth and youth. Clowe is slowly regressing in statistics and san jose knows that torontos 2nd pick will end up being a decent pick as toronto has alot of work ahead of them to make it into the playoffs.
idk why every leaf fan has such a huge boner for Ryan Clowe
While he's obviously a good player and would upgrade the team... why do we need another 15-20 goal scoring 2nd line grinder? the leafs team is filled with 2nd/3rd liners already... doesnt really address a need

This is the answer. Don't want to spend Schenn + on JVR, or multiple 1st for Jamie Benn, etc. (not saying it'll happen just to get my point across)
imo we need a top 3 scoring winger... then we move lupul down to the 2nd line to be the top 6 PWF
Lupul and clowe are the same height and clowe outweighs him by about 15 lbs. its not that big of a difference
Why Lupul is fine with Kessel, and Clowe plays a PWF game, while Lupul uses his size to be strong on the puck rather than make punishing hits? What top line winger, save for Parise, would you want that wouldn't dismember the roster or prospect pool?
If we do trade Murray we would simply need a LHD to play on the bottom-pairing. We won't go after someone like Liles.
This is not necessarily accurate. One, Brad Stuart hasn't played on the left side at even strength in about five years. Asking him to switch to the left side is easier than having Braun or Demers do it but one of them will have to when they move Murray unless they go outside the box with a deal. Either way, whoever they ask to switch should be on the third pairing because it takes time to adjust and asking Stuart to switch and be in the top four and potentially with Dan Boyle is asking for trouble. You get Gunnarsson and you solve a lot of those issues. Signing Suter would be even better but we'll see.
Clowe's value is nowhere close to the value HF thinks it is.
Same can be said for every player talked about on these boards.
As much as i would like to see Clowe moved for a faster top 6 forward, i doubt he goes anywere because im pretty sure hes one of DW's favorites
