I tend to agree with some here - the Yotes will stay in Glendale for 2012-2013.

There is every indication to suggest that they won't, but we all thought the same thing since 2009.

And yet they are still there.

Sorry Nords fans.

I'm inclined to agree that, at the very least, this just bought the NHL/Glendale one more year in the desert.

So it's the song that never ends yet again....

Considering that they were just about ready to move last year and were saved at the last second by the 25 mil Glendale was gonna give them, would the NHL really stay in Glendale for one more year without the guarantee of that 25 mil?

That was my question too. But once the schedule is released, you have to assume that this is the case. The NHL will stay in Phoenix even without the $25 M subsidy.

...Now if I was a member of the Glendale City council, I would sit up and take note of that the next time an owner or the league says "give me $XX Million or the team is gone"

How would this work, though? Glendale is about to be told to shut the cash tap off. The NHL won't want to absorb $40 million or so in losses for 12-13 on its own. And Jamison doesn't have the cash to buy the team, let alone operate it through a lame-duck season.

Schedule or not, the only way the Coyotes stay for next season is if somebody agrees to lose a hell of a lot of money. With the idiots at Glendale now very likely being taken to a sure loser of a referendum, there isn't anybody out there to fund this boondoggle.

It would appear as if they do want to absorb more losses.

If this thing is to continue, I really really (half hour later of really) wish the NHL swallows the 100% of losses for the next year.

My opinion is, if by July 1st the team is still in Glendale, it will be for the entire season. Why? On July first, free agents will want to know where this team will play next season...

So stay tuned! ANYTHING can happen 'til then.

I assume that if Jamison doesn't complete the sale the NHL will still get whatever arena management fee that Jamison would have gotten. So instead of $25 mil, they get ($19? I forget the amount for the firstyear).

It's 17M$ But isn't this deal only between Glendale and Jamison? There is no garantee (nor deal) the city would be willing to give it to the league...

Indeed, and since Bettman has said that they will be playing in Glendale for the 2012-2013 season publicly, you'd think they don't have much of a bargaining chip with the COG over them covering losses.

Correction: Bettman said he's hopeful the team will play in Glendale next season. Quite different!

Contracts are generally written to franchise, not locale. You sign a deal with the Coyotes franchise; neither Phoenix nor Glendale are attached to that. Deals are with team, not city.

Ah yes, he remains confident they will play in Arizona next season. Damn, everything he says has no meaning or value.

Also I would not push it pass the NHL to let all the UFA go, not sign anybody new and sell a gutted "Coyotes" to PKP on July 10 or something. You know a last FU by Garry. "Here you got what you wanted! You ask for a coyotes you a have a coyotes! Off course it a three day old road kill and it smelling more than a bit but hey you wanted a team right!"

Maybe, but in this case, IIRC, the league already stated Jamison had to get its deal done first before even dreaming on getting his hands on the team...

It's actually a legit concern, Doan has come out and said he'd retire if the team moves. Last year Bryzgalov voiced his concerns about playing in Winnipeg. If you sign with Phoenix this off-season to lets say a 2 year deal, you could be playing in Quebec by 2013-2014.

Gotta think players want a bit more certainty.

Doan never said he'd retire if the team moves.

I didn't say that it wouldn't be of concern to agents and players, what I said was that the July 1 date has zero impact upon whether or not they will move the team, contrary to the statement I initially quoted. Any player that either signs or is already signed and under contract by the Coyotes is in fact signed by the team, not the city. If the league moves the team, they also move the players attached to the team, regardless of the date on which it occurs.
