Zach Parise vs. Bobby Ryan

At this point, would you rather dish out a monumental contract to Parise (est. 10+ years, 100+ Million) Or give up some pretty monumental assets (1st rounder, prospect, NHL player) for Bobby Ryan? I would almost feel more comfortable giving up some of our assets, given our prospect pool rather than unloading the bank on Parise and most likely regretting it in 6 years

Parise. Ryan would cost a lot of assets, like the Burns trade, and I would rather have Coyle + 1st + Seto or whatever over one Ryan. Plus Seto might bounce back.

Parise, you can save the assets for other needs down the line...giving you more options to get over the hump if need be!

Parise, and it's not even close.

The only way I want to make a trade right now is if we can somehow get rid of players who are expendable and/or cast-offs and get someone who can actually make an impact.

But somehow I don't think Clutter + Cullen + 2013 First is going to bring home Ryan.

The cost is probably close to equal, prospects and picks vs the contract. The difference would be depth and future.

I take the safer route and choose Parise.

Parise over Ryan, but it's close.

While we're going to have to give Parise a huge contract if he signs here, we'd have to deal with trying to re-sign Ryan after his current contract is up (3 seasons left I believe). That's probably going to be a pretty decent sized contract in itself, and if you factor in the assets we'd be giving up for Ryan and the fact that we may only have him for three seasons, I'd take Parise now.

I don't think its a guarantee that if we get a big name player that they walk at the end of their contract anymore.

We're going to be good in a few years, and I think a lot of people are starting to notice that. If we make the playoffs this year, and the next season after that, and the next season after that, I think people start to come here because they'll see we're getting "close", and I think the people already here might think twice about leaving.

Heater for example, I could see taking a pay cut to stay here after his contract runs out if we're becoming a power in our conference. Seto I think might be convinced to stick around too.

And if we somehow get to the Cup Finals? Or actually manage to WIN the thing? Well then the urge to move on someplace else to "win a cup" completely gets out of the picture, and Minnesota becomes a premier NHL destination because suddenly we would have these talking points:

-Strong team
-Great farm system
-Excellent community to raise your kids in
-Great youth hockey opportunities for your kids
-Legitimate chance at the cup every year
-Loyal and knowlegable fan base
-No huge spotlight like there is in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Vancouver, Detroit, or other high pressure hockey markets

So really, all we have to do is start winning and I think we become one of the bigger destinations in the NHL in fairly short order, ESPECIALLY after realignment goes through and we're not stuck in the ****** travel Northwest anymore.

If we land Parise he will be getting a crazy contract but unless he drops off dramatically there is always a possibility of moving him later on. There are quite a few crazy contracts out there that have recently been traded. I would much rather keep our assets and add another one.

I was more saying that we are only guaranteed three seasons of Ryan before we'd have to negotiate a new contract, not necessarily that he would walk. The new contract probably won't be as high as Parise's deal, but it could still be pretty hefty. So factor in Ryan's new contract and what we'd have to give up to get him and I'd rather have Parise for the rest of his career.

Do you really regret the Parise deal six years down the road. . .if you have six playoff appearances and a Cup in those six years?

What you give up for Ryan, you're giving up now.

This is a rather easy question. Parise, I don't like to use this, but AINEC.

Parise easily. Ryan would cost at least one of Granlund, Coyle, Brodin, or Dumba

Parise because I don't want to see the Wild give up young players in a trade.

Parise AINEC

Ryan's a good player, but he's not worth 2013 1st + Coyle + Roster Player, which is the minimum he would cost to pry out of Anaheim.

As a Wild fan I agree with this, but also

Not to mention:

1) ANA wants a #2 Center coming back (roster player) Wild don't even have one.....yet. Granlund may take a year or two.

2) Almost every other team in the league can make a more competitive offer for Ryan. Especially DAL and PHI (just 2 that come to mind).

3) MIN will be no closer to being a contender with or without Ryan.
